If you're using the new Firefox, that's not the banned posts, it's the background image file (currently for EVE Online) lurking behind the main Escapist page. It's a known issue, we're all suffering from it. (And if you're not using FF3, then never mind.)
I don't see the hordes of giant penis monsters having a terribly detrimental impact on the game's sales. Despite all the fun we're having with hyperbole - and the fact that there really are an awful lot of giant penis monsters out there - the majority of creatures produced so far are of the non-penile variety. I would also imagine that when it comes to actually being placed in the game, EA will be far more careful about what they let through than they are now. And bear in mind that most of the giant penis monsters are showing up on forum posts and websites, completely beyond EA's control. If nothing else, parents can either make sure their kids are playing strictly offline, or monitor the game to make sure nothing objectionable gets through - which they should be doing anyway.
And consider this: We're not talking about porn here. We're not even talking about realistic-looking, anatomically-correct penises. We're talking about ridiculous-looking giant penis monsters. Really young kids who get a look at Steve (see the 250,000 Spore Creatures thread) probably won't even see anything beyond a goofy-looking clodhopper with a stupid grin and a long tail; and if a kid is old enough to see the giant penis in the monster, so what? I'm not suggesting we all walk around in public with our units hanging out, but everybody's packing naughty bits of one sort or another down there. What are we really protecting them from?
