Gamasutra is reporting that software engineers suing EA for disputed overtime have won a settlement to the tune of $14.9 million. Additionally, some entry level coders will now enter in as hourly workers, which will give them access to overtime from here on out.

This is awesome news. It's good to see the people exploited by bad project management get properly compensated for the long hours they put in. Granted, this probably won't make life at EA much better, but it's a definite start.

It's good news that they're getting compensated for the overtime that they did work, but it's really not good news that they're exchanging stock options and other benefits for hourly pay. For some people it's a better deal to make hourly pay, but that might not be true for all.
