Earth Defense Force Port Brings Big Bugs To Small Phones

Further proving that Japan gets all the coolest toys, D3Publisher has ported cult classic giant bug killing simulator Earth Defense Force 2017 to mobile phones in the Land of the Rising Sun.

As seems to be aesthetically faithful [http://www.siliconera.com/2009/09/22/earth-defense-force-2017-ported-to-mobile-phones/] to its Xbox 360 predecessor, down to the "looking up at impossibly huge enemies" point of view, stupidly oversized ants, and minimalist heads-up display.

Sadly, I suspect this also means it shares that game's tendency to slow down under heavy action, but I played through 150 missions in the Xbox 360 version and I would totally drop the cash to do it again in portable form.

There's no word on whether this game might appear in the U.S., but given EDF2017's fanbase, and the very limited amount of localization the series would require, I've got my fingers crossed.

Interesting that they're basing it on EDF3/2017 instead of the much more popular (and probably closer to cellphone specs) EDF2. I didn't like that many of the big things were only vulnerable when their hatches opened and of course the lack of Pale Wing annoyed many. Well, EDF3 is supposed to be a reboot of EDF1 so maybe they're just keeping the option of making EDF 4 a reboot of 2 and wanted to keep EDF3's design around on the cellphone...

I don't think you're going to see a Sandlot game without slowdown, even their DS mech game had slowdown.

What worries me is that the text looks like it says something like 10 missions times 5 difficulties.
