This is funny... kind of...

I am neutral on this whole EA vs EVERYONE ELSE war, but I am sure this could actually be a good card in EA´s desktop later in the story.

Jesus christ how immature can people be. I mean come on you might as well had just gone to their headquarters and spray painted "cock" on their wall or something.
I'd pay for someone to do that and take pictures

awww, the page is down. Thoroughly disappointed. Other than that, doesnt seem like a big deal. I mean its facebook. Why are people on EA's Facebook? Are they friends with EA? Where are their real friends? It almost makes me cry when I think of people watching EA's wall posts. Thats no way to live.

Well done you twats! Now we can all look on as it becomes impossible to make a legitimate complaint against the business practices of EA without being pigeon-holed as a member of the most immature demographic of gamers. Seriously, how much do you have to suck to make EA come out of anything looking like the good guy, and it's a position that I'm sure they will now milk for all it's worth, just like they milked the people who accused Bioware RPG's of shoving homosexuality in their face. If we want EA to change, or just go away if change is no longer possible, then can we please stop handing them ammunition for crying out loud?!

Well done. Well fucking done!
how does that hinder you from making legitimate complaints?

Hah, I am guessing all those terabytes of porn made them run out of tissues and hand-cream, as soon as they are done running to the grocerystore, the page will be online again.

This statement is true, and can be applied to every idiotic behaviour that people do that put the gaming community down a couple of pegs. Morons on the outside already assume we are all just immature man-children, let's not give them valid reasons for it.

Jim Sterling posts an episode on Monday claiming that those who insulted Sarkeesian invalidated their right to rational argument on the grounds that it pushed the conversation into troll territory that she didn't have to defend. And then, here, you say the exact same thing about this post. Without basis. Despite that this attack on E.A. is completely different to the attack on Sarkeesian. And you expect me to call the a co-incidence? Go, on. I'll humour you. Tell me why I'm wrong.

[sub].Disgonbegood.gif[/sub]
Firstly, having seen Jim's most recent episode, I think you are misrepresenting the details of his point. If I recall correctly, his line of argument was not so much that those people had "invalidated their right" to rational debate, and more just that what they were doing (ie. rape threats/making mini-games where you punch Sarkeesian in the face etc.) have no place in rational debate, and only serve to sully the image of all who disagree with Sarkeesian, while elevating her into some kind of martyr for the feminist cause. By all means, these people can continue to make all the, oh so serious and rational, points against Sarkeesian that they like, but they are not going to be taken seriously while the blatant harassment continues. No matter how legitimate your grievance against someone might be, if you're going to act like a child, then you will be treated like a child.

Alright, semantics out of the way...

As it happens, I agreed with his sentiments in that episode completely, and it also happens that the same principle applies here (I'm not sure exactly how this is so "completely different" in anything other than the fine details, but you're welcome to elaborate if you wish). If the image that the gaming community (all of it, including developers, publishers, and journalists) has of people who disagree with EA, is defined by the sort of juvenile bottom-feeder who spams facebook pages with hentai, then it makes it much harder for anyone who levels a complaint at EA to be taken seriously. For example, as I mentioned briefly in my original post, shorty after the release of Mass Effect 3, a big deal was made by EA over some complaints they had received about homosexual relationships being included in both ME3 and also DA2. These complaints, pure and simple bigotry that they were, were only made by a minuscule minority, but by making a big deal out of them EA came out of it looking like some big defender of civil rights, and I find it hard to believe that that particular event in no way contributed towards other articles that promoted EA against its detractors, dismissing large swathes of people with legitimate grievances as simply 'not liking change'. Again, same principal. You act like a child, you get treated like one, only in reality it's worse, because it is the few that are acting like children, that lead to us all being treated like children.

So yes, in short, I agree with Jim. However, if I were in your shoes I believe I would find it incredibly easy to believe that it is just a coincidence. If you have gone through your life never once meeting two unconnected people who share the same opinion, then I am inclined to ask what planet you are from? I assure you that the thought of copying the views of Jim Sterling never once crossed my mind when I was making my original post. My opinion is my own, no matter who I may share it with.

Was that good enough for you?

As a few said above, this is not helping anyone, it only strengthens EA's ability to play the victim, and that's the last thing we want.
One time I got a prank call, does that strengthen my ability to play the victim? Now maybe if Origin was hacked and every game was replaced with naughty images then they could play the victim card, this pretty much amounts to stepping in gum, a minor annoyance and only serves to emasculate them further as a professional company.

It hinders me because, as another person who just quoted me said far better than I did originally (props btw), the gaming community is already seen largely from the outside as a bunch of insecure man-children, and all examples like this do is add evidence to support that sentiment, which makes it harder for those of us who actually do want rational debate to be taken seriously.

Agreed, but I wouldn't put it past them to use this to try to gain sympathy, or something.

Congratulations, immature loudmouths of the gamer community. Giving EA the moral highground ... Again!
Wasn't there this other thing, where EA catered to the whiners and got praised for it afterwards? ... Geez.

Yes, because noone at all had that opinion before ... Oh wait, I think some people did ... Multiple times.
But of course, only Jim can be right, and only Jim may have an opinion. Noone shall even agree with it.

That does not make it impossible to complaint. And as we have seen from a tone of storys they dont listen to reasonable people. They only listen when people are really loud and aggressive.

Heh, this was almost exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the title of the thread. Glad to see there's other people with common sense on the internet.

I'm sorry... what?
Dude. Seriously.

"You have the same opinion as someone else, I'm flagging you, ha that'll show you"

What part of that didn't set off troll warning lights in your head? Go to your profile, go into edit ignore list, add his name. Done. Hell, I know he'll be trying it on me next so I've already added him to mine.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, at least the first time. Especially now you can get warned for accusing someone of trolling... but yeah, I thought as much.
