eBay Germany Takes a Swipe At Xbox One, Suggests Wii U As Viable Substitute [http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/05/ebay_germany_takes_a_swipe_at_xbox_one_suggests_wii_u_as_viable_substitute]

From The Article said:
"No used games blocking, no mandatory online, no fuss"

Microsoft's Xbox One hasn't had the greatest of starts - the announcement has been clouded by news relating to blocked second-hand sales, "always online" requirements and a complete absence of backwards compatibility.

With second-hand software sales potentially at risk, many retailers will lose out when Microsoft's console hits the market ? retailers like eBay.
eBay's German arm has seized on this opportunity to stick the boot in, and has posted a promotional listing on Facebook for the Wii U which features the following selling points:

-Keine Gebraucht-Spiel-Sperren (no used games blocking)
-Keine Online-Pflicht (no mandatory online)
-Kein Gedöns (no fuss)
So, with eBay Germany supporting the WiiU, and Amazon UK recently Seeing a Surge in WiiU Sales [http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/05/consumers_go_crazy_for_wii_u_following_xbox_one_reveal] (However Small it may be), could the WiiU be a huge player in Europe? Or does this simply mean that the XBone has no Future in Europe?

I like the WiiU, it's a charming little console.

Granted, I only use it for Monster Hunter at the moment, but being able to play on the tablet while someone else uses the TV was a stroke of genius.

All it really needs is an awesome game lineup.

Well Europe has always been split I would say its anybodies game there but Microsoft are doing their best to make sure nobody wants an Xbox One so that leaves the PS4 and WiiU as players and so long as both get some decent games and ofc Sony dont catch whatever Microsoft have then they should both do very well.

I wonder if the xbone will ever actually be released over here. Doesn't it violate certain laws regarding customer rights and privacy?

I just got my copy of Monster Hunter yesterday. :D Although I honestly prefer to use the Pro Controller, when applicable(if only because playing on the tablet screen is nigh worthless; no one uses my tv except me, as it is in my room). But still an amazing feature nonetheless, as it lets you keep track of whatever your Wii U is doing(like system or game updates) while you primarily do something else with the tv.

Honestly, I just think the X1(no, I will not refer to it with that silly ass name everyone else keeps using) just won't be as big in Europe. I heard there will be region-locking, but I don't honestly see much of a problem with that, outside of not being able to import and play US/PAL(whichever one isn't your version) versions of the game. Although I'm not particularly keen on the full implications of region-locking.

Aside from that, the X1 has pretty much become a joke for everyone except Microdicks. I haven't seen any evidence that it's going to be big anywhere, but that's probably just me.

Well I share a room with my fiancee, so why she's using the TV, I get to carry on committing Rath genocide. It's a very specific feature, but for those who need it, it's a godsend :D

Indeed, it does have its uses. Quite a stroke of genius, whatever people like to say about the controller. It's also great for playing quietly. Just play with the GamePad and plug in some headphones. Whomever happens to be sleeping won't be disturbed by the light or the sound. :D

Am I right in thinking Germany has always been pretty uptight about things like consumer rights and corporate douchebaggery? It certainly seems like its the German government constantly taking companies like EA and Microsoft to task over invasion of privacy and such.

If that's the culture over there, then honestly I'm not surprised by this. In fact, I wish retailers in the UK would be as willing to stand up for consumer rights, even if it is through shameless advertising. My biggest worry is that we're going to find out that the Xbone is objectively shit, and people will still rush out in droves to buy it anyway. The reception has been ice-cold thus far, so I'm not without hope, but still...
Germany has a lot of power in the EU nowadays when you compare their current economy to that of places like Greece, so Germany gets a lot of say in it. Not as much as those on the Security Council, but they still hold a lot of power. Plus a lot of the things MS does breaks EU laws and MS can't seem to understand that.

OT: Well I always was gonna get a Wii U, I'm just waiting for more games, and more importantly Wind Waker HD. From my understanding Sony is pretty big in Europe and Nintendo is in second when it comes to other European countries. Xbox is really popular in England though. MS is really gonna have to do amazing things at this EA because eBay is no small business that's for sure.

I literally don't know anyone with a Wii U, and I live in Europe. In Ireland it's a big split between Xbox and PS, probably slightly more Xbox. A Spanish guy told me that they all have Playstations, so read into that what you will. I'm really not interested in the Wii U but I appreciate E-Bay's reasoning behind trying to flog them.

The only real problem with the Wii U, that every console doesn't have too, is pretty much that it has a very, very small selection of good games at the moment.

That and it took until the XBox One for people over here in the states to realize Microsoft talks out it's own ass.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but has anyone else kinda forgotten the WiiU? It just seems compared to the last release cycle, it's so under-heralded

Not quite sure the WiiU is quite there yet to becoming the biggest player. Rather it seems to be taking up the position of back-up console.

People were holding out for the XBox One, only when that fell through did they turn their attention to the WiiU.

Many, including those initially interested in the XBone, now seem to be holding out for the PS4.

The WiiU isn't bad by any means, but it doesn't really seem to be standing out. Not being shit is only good if all your competitors in fact are shit.

So the ball's probably more in Sony's park than in Nintendo's. But if Sony fails to take the shot then Nintendo will be in an excellent position to capitalize on that.

I do suggest that you pick up Lego City: Undercover and New Super Mario Bros U. The former is hilarious and one of the best Lego games to date and the latter is the best 2D Mario since the original NSMB on the DS and Super Mario World on the SNES.

Also, download the Rayman Legends Challenge App. Lots of fun to be had in it, until release.
Super Mario World is probably the best platformer ever made.

Putting it in the same category as NSMB really hurts my soul.

But overall I agree that the Wii U is charming and that LCU sounds good.

As the Article in the OP pointed out, the Xbone will cause tons of losses for the Retail Gaming Market as it tries to kill used games.
If UK outlets DO stand against it, it'd be for the same reason, watching their own asses.

I guess they are just using it to sell WiiUs, must be tons of them left unsold. lol. Funny thing is, the things they say against the Xbone are yet to be proven true until E3. So i think there might be trouble if thats the case. Surely that would be slander? Or whatever the product version is.

I'm surprised Europe isn't making a bigger fuss over the fact that there is an always-on monitoring device that MUST be attached to your new Xbone at all times. That and the fact that second-sales are being aggressively destroyed...Surely something isn't going to fly legally here?

Right now, the only sensible country seems to be Germany and even they're not being as vocal as I suspected.

Again. There is a freaking camera that MUST be connected at all times. Even if Microsoft doesn't end up selling your personal details to third-party advertisers (or maybe even Governments), there's no way hackers aren't going to find a way to access peoples Kinects and upload videos of people doing it to the internet.

Seriously, am I the only one incredibly creeped out by these new requirements?

Nothing is wrong with NSMB. The only issue with it was the lackluster Wii and 3DS versions. The original DS and Wii U versions were great.
I will have to fundamentally disagree with the argument that nothing is wrong with NSMB.

But opinions are opinions. Since Super Mario Galaxy 2 it has been obvious that they are just phoning it in. They have all the "content" of previous Mario games but completely lack "context".

They are functionally fine but the emotion that is normally conveyed through Mario games is utterly lost.

The New Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS is a great example of a Mario game having that passion. The attention to detail is immaculate and the charm that I associate with Nintendo is there.

It gives me hope that they'll make another game with that kind of feel to it. They had such a long run of doing it that I was hit pretty hard by SMG2 (and the NSMBs that followed).
