It Came From Japan

Stuff lives in Japan that can't exist elsewhere. Like poisonous puffer fish and tentacle porn and a megacity visible from space.

So, uh.... why Hello Kitty?

I mean, I'd understand if the article was about something else, and only touched upon Hello Kitty in reference...

But and entire article devoted to Hello Kitty?

.... I have to be misreading this....

Hello Kitty is one of the biggest cross-cultural brands in the world and achieved that in an unorthodox way. People find unorthodox things interesting and worthy of discussion. You could always try reading things before you mouth off, but that's out of character for some people.

There is nothing that Japanese culture can ever produce, including nintendo, that can make up for releasing Hentai upon this world. I'm amazed that the first person to come up with that wasn't placed in an insane asylum.
You mean Hentai (creator put in asylum part)? Hentai originated, or rather, specifically, the first known case/picture of tentacle porn originated as an old Wood Painting from I believe the 1800's. It was called "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife." It had a women and, if I remember correctly, an Octupus having sex. Tentacle Porn, or, rather, Tentacle Hentai, in the 1800's. It essentially created Japanese culture are now know it.

Oh... and tentacle porn can survive in other parts of the world. See "La Blue Girl." Also see severe mental trauma upon first tentacle scene because I was stupid enough to take my friends word for it in that "No, La Blue Girl isn't a hentai. It's a comedy." My Response was to watch the first episode, get traumatized, and create the new rule of "Wikipedia it, read description, then decide on whether to watch it or not."

If its all the same to you, I won't watch it. I have enough mental problems without an irrational homicidal rage against all Japanese people. And I don't just mean tentacle porn. I have only what I've heard from some friends, but I hear it also includes the following.

X-Ray hentai - shows whats happeniing inside the females organs during intercourse.
Dickgirls - Girls with penises raping other girls with penises
I don't know the term, but a form that shows a girls body mutilated, as in freshley amputated, using a surgical saw or tablesaw.

I have no idea if any of these exist, and I pray to God they do not.
Don't get me wrong. I don't watch Hentai either. I watch Anime. That's why I was annoyed at my friend for tricking me like that. He knew that I don't watch Hentai. Anyway, the blood one is called Guro. Only reason i know that is 'cause that term actually originated here in america (I think), and doesn't necessarily have to be a sexual thing.

Oh man, Its real? I think a part of me just died.
Yeah, from what I saw in School Days (which has hentai, but is actually classified as a Drama, plus fastforward is most useful for parts you don't wanna see) so is the x-ray, and go to wikipedia and type in "Bible Black," and you'll learn that so is Futa/Futanari (the girls with extra parts one)...

The Japanese (excuse the generalization) have created the ability to enjoy (and I use that term loosely) any fetish possible by the human mind, and several fetishes only capable by minds not-human. This, amoung other things, is why their culture is theirs, and only facets of it seem to go to other countries. No one wants it, or rather, no one thinks they want it until they see it. Then they either pull what we did (and become disgusted), or pull what my friend, John, did, and learn to enjoy it.

Thus, we see there is a problem. In my personal opinion this really should be characterized as a mental illness, with forms of rehabilitation and therapy available.
Ah, but people have said that those who play Horrifically violent video games (Gears of War, God of War), for example) have a mental illness, and I really enjoy both God and Gears of War. In the end, if someone else enjoys it, they can watch it. Just don't show it to me (or you), and were cool.

No, we're not. Human sexuality is a much more serious part of their makeup than hobbies. Linking it to such...abominations against nature is ...well, I don't really have access to cases at the moment, but you get the point.
Are you serious? Who cares what porn an adult watches? It's not like octopus rape is on the rise.

hahaha this reminds me of that south park episode (also about japanese anime) "Guess they don't care about violence if there's sex things to worry about" or something :)

"Fear for the unknown" and stuff, maybe

Hmmm I know the escapist doesn't pretend to be a sociology magazine, but even so the cultural issues in Japan are rather deeper and more interesting than a few 'posterboy' things such as Hentai really show.

hehe i couldn't agree more, whatever someone fatasies are, as long as they keep them to themselves and don't infringe upon anybody else with them then its no skin off my back. What you think we should call the thought police or something?

I didn't bother quoting 'cause I'd have to quote half the topic responses, but I agree with whoever said that essentially "They can do their thing, let us do ours." Everyone has their own fetishes. Remember, this stuff wouldn't exist if someone didn't like it. They wouldn't keep making Guro if no-one looked at it. That's not profitable. And I'd rather someone express their fetish by looking at a Manga, then to actually go and cut someone up to get off... which is why, I think, that things like this were created. So that people wouldn't actually do stuff like that. I remember an article on this site talking about how crime rates have gone down since the inception of the modern Grand Theft Auto series. Well, simmilar concept... Sorry for the mini-rant.

Read through all the articles in the set.

Really, the only one that I enjoyed was the yaoi one (which surprised me, I don't really go looking for yaoi). The others either didn't acknowledge anything before the 90s or mid-80s (magical girl one and the otaku one), were about Hello Kitty, or made me upset for missing out on a band I liked (the music one).

*Looks through posts in topic*

Dickgirls and tentacle hentai is nothing special (really, in most cases the dick is simply regarded as an extra thing to pleasure and a way to tell if the female is turned on, really nothing too weird, and tentacle hentai peaked with Urotsukidoji and nothing has really compared to it since). Look up "Mai-chan's Daily Life" sometime.
