Not sure if one was made already but I just figured I'd see what others had to say about it, personally I like it just the way it was as a single player RPG and that there are too many MMOs coming out already.

I wouldn't mind that at all.I don't understand why every fantasy setting/story/series needs an MMO.

Yeah I agree. The land is too small as it is anyway. I wouldn't like a shit load of people infesting it.

They really don't. MMOs are a misguided attempt at trying to recreate the social atmosphere of table-top gaming by taking it to its logical extreme.

Small parties with close friends > large parties with many strangers

Not interested, what I like about the Elder Scrolls series is the moddability and all the fascinating mods. We don't need yet another mmorpg.

More than likely this is a waste of Bethesda's money.

I was excited about this when the entierly baseless rumors about it were spreading because in my mind it was just going to be morrowind or oblivion but with other people. This press statement says it will be a "world of warcraft like MMO".

WHY the fuck would anyone make a WoW type MMO? WoW exists and like it or not is, by definition, the pivotal WoW like MMO so anyone who wants to play a game LIKE WoW may as well just fucking play WoW.

I wanted an ELDER SCROLLS like MMO - I hate WoW very, very much. Bethesda, if you'd got a jump on the MMO market like 5 to 10 goddamn years ago you could stand a chance here but you don't. You really don't. There are only so many people in the world willing to pay monthly fees for a game. If they're playing one the odds are very, very low their going to pay for another unless you hope to convert them. But the very NATURE of an MMO is investment. What incentives does anyone have to switch games besides mind numbing boredom? If someone has sunk 2000 hours into WoW that's like a testament of their work, they don't want to leave that.

No, too boring as an MMO, the series' advantage is that it's entirely focused on you.

If they want to make an MMO just branch it off with a new name or subcategory(like Final Fantasy: Tactics) and dedicate a separate team to it.

Making the Elder Scrolls an MMO would completely detract from the experience of of you being the resident badass. While some things may work well in a massive setting (i.e. assassin's guild, vampires, etc) it would mostly just lose it's feel. On the other hand, if I could bring a friend or two along with me, I would be overjoyed; one of the many reasons SR2 is better than GTA4 is because in SR2 you can have a friend to come along and do pretty much everything you can do, short of buying property. I'd love to see that kind of open interaction between a small group of people on one game; not even having to be near each other or doing related things at all, but going out, doing things, meeting back for some drinks, then going adventuring. It would be great.

All it really needs is an online co-op mode, turning it into an MMO would pretty much destroy everything that makes TES what it is, I mean, picture WoW, but with Elder Scrolls lore, and you've pretty much got the end product.

But if they instead made it so say.... you and a certain number of friends could explore the world simultaniously, with each persons actions having some effect on the game world [i.e Bob the Warrior saves Bruma, and you, traveling through Chorral, hear stories about it], then that could work.

Add in a few dungeons that require a few people working together to beat, but for the love of god, no TES MMO

What also really grinds my gears is how this game is probably going to have the same effect that WoW did on blizzard. Mainly, putting a 4-5 year delay in the development of all the games which AREN'T MMOs. If you wanted a TES sequel to be announced this year, too bad, you'll probably have to wait until 2014.

Elder Scrolls has always been amazing because of the single player part of it.
It's nice enjoying huge open worlds to yourself without anyone around to bug you is great.

Plus it doesn't cost monthly!

Nothing about that idea appeals to me. I'd like a better AI and more immersive world, not some MMO where I get to be dry-humped by a nude player character with names like Spooge McDuck or RAEPZURM0MLOL233.

I remember hearing there was a possibility that 'The Elder Scrolls MMO' would take to a new era (potentially involving guns etc.) and that is something I'm not happy about. But at the end of the day, as much as I say I dream of an Elder Scrolls MMO, what I'm really saying is "I wish Oblivion was an MMO". Obviously this is a ridiculous claim and I wouldn't blame them at all for making a completely new concept. But at the same time, I will be disappointed if it steers too far away from what we already have.

No, no, no, no, no, please no, oh god no, NO! I want to keep single player games please. Just dedicated single player games. It's why I like RPG's, it's single player. It focuses on single player and it makes a good single player game. No MMO's please, just get to Elder Scrolls 5.

The only part about this I could see being great is the more action oriented combat that TES has. It would certainly make it stand out from other MMOs, especially if it kept the first person views.

Too... small?
You don't know anything about the elder scrolls, do you?
All the Elder Scrolls games takes place on Tamriel, which is just one continent on Nirn.
Morrowind took place on just a small island, and Oblivion took place on just one out of nine provinces of Tamriel.
And similar to The Forgotten Realms, TES also has multiple planes and worlds, effectively making the game world infinitely large.

Gee, sorry I didn't spend all my nights studying a games background. And I wasn't talking about Oblivion, I was thinking more Morrowind. Although come to think of it, Oblivion was heaps small. But I know they all took place on the same land and such, I just wasn't thinking when I posted it.

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.

Why does everything have to be an MMORPG these days?
