Elderwood Boxes Conquer Kickstarter With "Spellbook Gaming Cases"

Tabletop gamers have given nearly $140,000 to make Elderwood Boxes Spellbook Gaming Cases a reality.

One of the undeniably fun things about playing tabletop RPGs is the unspoken competition to see who can bring the fanciest accessories to the table. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131445-Hero-Forge-Kickstarter-Surpasses-Goal#&gid=gallery_2025&pid=1>Custom miniatures, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/141725-Artisan-Dice-Releases-Limited-Supply-248-Mammoth-Ivory-D20#&gid=gallery_4445&pid=1>mammoth tusk dice, RPGs printed <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140689-Fall-of-Magic-Is-A-Scroll-Based-RPG-On-Kickstarter>on freaking scrolls; while gamers might not admit it, many of us are in an unofficial arms race to prove once and for all who's the king/queen when it comes to nerdy novelties.

Hoping to give gamers more ammunition for that battle, the folks at Elderwood Boxes recently launched <a href=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1584169644/spellbook-gaming-boxes>a Kickstarter to raise funds for its new line of "Spellbook Gaming Boxes." Storage boxes designed to look like ancient fantasy tomes and spell books, they'll come in two basic designs -"card deck" and "rolling tray"- and feature a variety of customization options including "an array of luxurious leathers," different wood options, a selection of cover/spine art and foam inserts to tailor the boxes to each person's particular needs. The gaming boxes will also use "hidden magnets" along with a book belt to keep players' "treasures safe and secure." I'm also a big fan of the built-in "reflecting pool" marker boards.

The company originally requested 5,000 dollars to finance their production. That number was blown away in less than a day and, in the weeks since, the campaign has managed to raise nearly 140,000 dollars contributed by more 1,160 backers. Speaking personally, I have no trouble understanding why this has done so well. The fantasy aesthetic, the premium materials, the functionality; who wouldn't want to bring one of these to game night? Granted, they are going to be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Check them out for yourself and let us know what you think.
