Enlighten me, why are the Cliff racers from Morrowind so scorned?

I have never played through Morrowind and yet I always hear people who mention the game also mention traumatic experiences they had with Cliff Racers.

I want to be informed and amused so, why are they so hated? What makes them so horrible>

I do believe they're like flying Zerg, from what I hear of them.
Flying Zerg with spears.

They don't actually have spears, that's just how bad people seem to portray them as.

They're hard to spot until they attack you. They can come from any direction, including impassable cliffs. They have an annoying cry, which you'll become far more familiar with then you'd like. They have no sense of self-preservation, and will ALWAYS attack you if they see you. They can carry nasty diseases, which they'll pass on to you. And there's a never-ending supply of them.

All the above, and they also can sometimes be tricky with what angle you can actually hit them with. You can hack all day at it, and not be on it's hit detection area. The ONE critter in the game with hit detection problems, and it's by far the most annoying.

Have you ever heard the story of Sisyphus? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus]

Killing Cliff Racers feels like playing as Sisyphus, except this boulder screeches, has painful claws and carries diseases.

I found them annoying because they take forever to descend into sword reach. Whenever you've taken a few hits and want to sleep for the night, they appear and hover above you for what seems like forever, preventing you from resting.

I'd suggest some form of ranged attack for most players. Bows, spells, enchanted spell-shooting amulets are handy too.

The thing is, because they're weak, but hard to hit, they'll continue to take nearly as much time to fight when you're high level as when you were fresh off the boat. That just adds to the other annoyances.

They're so bad someone actually released a mod removing them from the game.

Heh! I agree.

At one point I got fed up with them and spend a bajillion gold and some huge soul I'd captured to make a flying ring that would keep me in the air in a very long time. I used that to make a flying vendetta on the pesky critters. But as Sisyphus would say, it didn't really make any difference in the long run. It was good to get some payback though.

They are annoying, EVERYWHERE, take their damn time but will stalk you to the ends of the earth...or well, Vvardenfell anyways (and a bit out into the sea). They are tediously annoying, and often make escorting people, like that annoying bosmer near Ald-Ruhn (the one who wants to go to the shrine in the Ghost Fence) difficult. They are like being surrounsed by flies.

They're everywhere, they come out of nowhere, they have an annoying shriek, and they're really, really hard to hit. That being said, spearing them is immensely satisfying once you do hit.
