You have to keep reminding yourself the new Spiderman reboot is coming out

I keep desperately trying to forget that the new Spiderman reboot is coming out.

You're the lucky one Bob.
I couldn't stand the spiderman movies, so a complete reboot leaves me hopeful.
For the record, I don't oppose the reboot itself. Even though I did like the first 2 Spiderman films, the third one left such a bad taste that a reboot isn't a bad idea in itself.

My issues are typical nerdrage pissing and moaning. Not to be taken too seriously ;)

Not that I want to turn this into a debate on use of inclusive language or anything, but I've gotta raise issue with Bob's use of the word 'schizophrenic' - I get that it would have been in reference to the disjointed and (possibly) disorganised genre switch half way through, but I'm also feeling that it was pointing to the 'split-personality' aspect of the flick as well...? Schizophrenia is one of those labels that unfortunately comes with a lot of stigma attached, which people diagnosed often wind up wearing for the rest of their lives to the detriment of their own recovery. Lot of symptoms which normally would include disorganised thinking, hallucinations and delusions, but no split personality...

Now I know Bob is a pretty enlightened guy, so I know any negative use of the word wouldn't be intentional, just something to be aware of i guess... - it would be kind of cool though to see Bob's take on the portrayal of mental illness in the media, maybe over in the other videos? 99% of what I see gets it wrong, sensationalises it to the point of schizophrenia = axe-murdering-rapist, and generally contributes to people's suffering... Maybe a focus on a geek character like Marvel's Sentry???

So, you can't make a movie about the movies without turning it into a Christmas movie for families to watch then? At least RKO 281 had balls, even if no one knows about it...

As a schizophrenic, I'll tell you there is a difference between schizophrenia and schizophrenic. Schizophrenia is the name of the disease, schizophrenic is what happens when medication isn't working and the world starts falling apart, but on some level still makes a really fucked up strange sort of sense. To a normal person the new rules that are governing a disjointed world would make no sense at all, but if you've lost your ability to think rationally then sense doesn't matter at all. And yes I know I called my self a schizophrenic there, but that is the term for a person who has schizophrenia, but schizophenic to me means the sensation of active schizophrenia, I'd would actually describe myself as normal or schizophrenic depending on how I'm coping at a given moment (I am getting better at telling when I'm not, so that is helping my recovery, thanks)

The split personality thing is a bit of a jump, but I don't see this movie as a case of split personality, just split focus and it's own rationale, so schizophrenic, but not completely schizophrenic, just unfocused and confused.

I'm not going to get offended because bob used this word in a certain context, I know it's a word that's used to describe a lot of things that would be better described by saying "split focus" or "unfoccused" or something like that, which are actually better terms to use since schizophrenic as a term is never really used in a context where it fits. I'll just say that the only thing that offends me is when some one doesn't really understand what schizophrenia is, which makes it hard to do things like get a job when your potential boss things you're a foot step out of a hospital stay that he will have to pay you wages for. Significantly less chance of going back to hospital than if having something like cancer, significantly more discrimination in employment. And yes I realize I'm rationalizing ignorance and bigotry here but that's just how I cope.

That being said I'll back up what you said about wrong context for it though. But I don't find what bob said to be offensive.

Actually,he's not. When you look around at just how generic character design has been lately, this is a nice change of pace, and yeah, it is a giant flip off to the generic character designs of late and it is a good thing.
Oh, I know, I was just dying for any excuse to put that line in a thread.

Props to the Daily Show viewer. :) I don't even watch it that often (more of a Colbert guy) but I watched it cause Scor was a guest and they really didn't think it was a spoiler, kind of just breezed over it and talked about it and the GM for a whole part of it.

Bleh. Do it without spoilers!

This was already a must-see for me anyway regardless of what Bob says so I guess it doesn't matter.

I fail to understand why Scorsese is as respected, or just plain worshiped. I haven't seen a Scorsese movie that I really cared about. Not that I can recall, anyway. Might have seen one that I thought was alright. *goes to check* Yeah, I guess the Departed was OK. Gangs of News York, too, if a little tough t swallow. All I know is that the last Scorsese movie I heard about was George Harrison: Living in the Material World and my brother, who is a huge Beatles fan, hated that movie, saying it had no real point and brought up all kinds of stuff about George Harrison that he'd never heard of before, like various vices which you'd think a Beatles fan like him would have gotten wind of from all the other Beatles biographical material out there. My brother posits that Scorsese should stop trying to be a documentarian because he isn't one, citing the Rolling Stones documentary Shine a Light as another hatchet job but he probably keeps trying because 1978's The Last Waltz serendipitously turned out decent, but that lightning hasn't struck twice.

It's too bad, really, because I want to like Scorsese because he speaks about film with passion that I can dig, but I'm just not as interested in the films he makes. Oh well.

EDIT: This is actually the first time I've heard of this movie and wow. I didn't know that Sacha Baron Cohen actually did roles that were not comedic.
He's gonna be playing Freddie Mercury in a Queen biopic. And if he did a good job in this role, I'm gonna be looking forward to him as Freddie Mercury.

Saw the movie. LOVED the movie. Completely agreed with this review. The big twist (that I won't spoil either) was definitely one of the most flawed bits of the otherwise EXCELLENT film. Still a beautiful film with a gorgeous art direction and sense of atmosphere. Definitely worth a watch this one.

Or he would be, if the character actually looked good... right now all he's doing is showing that being different for its own sake isn't a good idea.

I watched the first 1min30s of this then stopped spoiler-free, from Bob's generally favourable-if-hole-punching tone I know that I want to see it, and his slightly less than GLOWING recommendation of the opening I know that I should try it in 3D (not usually an attraction for me.)

Hey, remember when making a film that wasn't as well liked as the rest of the series didn't immediately result in a reboot? Like, you know, the James Bond series? I miss those days.
James Bond has rebooted itself- it's called Casino Royale. Too bad they ruined it with Quantum of Solace though.
