Knight & Day: Nothing wrong with that movie. I can understand movie snobs and purist that see movies as an art form to find nothing appealing about it, but for a couple who just want to have a good time, it's the perfect movie. Not all movies are meant to be remembered in 15 years.
Smurfs: Yeah I can see why the kid in all of us be pissed. But hey, I don't care. If I want to see the good old smurfs, I watch the good old smurfs on DVD. I was never waiting for this movie to make me feel like a kid again. Yeah, the cameos and yeah, the product placement, but who cares? Can't watch a foodball game without being blasted with publicity, so why care here? I'm sure my kids will enjoy that movie a lot. Maybe not for the same reasons I did, but again, who cares? Plus the Smurfs in New York? Why not?
We, 80's kids are such big cry babies when it comes to that type of stuff. We put give so much importance on the stuff that we grow up with and we're always complaining because they screw up with what we loved and never meet our expectations. And yet, they keep making movies about our stuff... why? because they make money... why? because we go see them anyway.
Talk to anyone 50 and older. Ask them about the Fugitive movie, the Mission Impossible movies, Lost in Space movie, Charlie's Angels movies, Dukes of Hazzard movies.
You know what will get... either "i liked it" or "i didn't liked it"... but you will never get "that was so unfaithful to the source material" or "they screwed up with my favorite tv show".
You know why? Because they grew up. Got kids and moved on to other interests. We didn't.
I guess that's what we get from spending our childhood in front of the TV.
Also... the Smurfs and the Chipmunks are 50 years old... basically, they belong to them a lot more than they belond to us.
Still I find it interesting to have someone like MovieBob's opinion.
Which I respect by the way.
He is educated, litterate and usually take movies for what they are.
