OOOOOOHHHHH Colin Firth can stutter, whoopty fuckin' doo.
I could s-s-s-st-st-stutter if I h-h-had t-t-to,
James Franco CUT HIS FUCKING ARM OFF, and made everyone who watched it shudder with sympathetic pain at that one part. Not to mention he carried a close to 2 hour movie ALL BY HIMSELF. [sub]with one hand behind his rock[/sub]
So if Colin F-F-Firth wins an Oscar for s-s-stuttering I will eat my hat.

And my money is still on Black Swan for Best Picture. Literally. I put money on it so it better win!! Don't let me down you Oscar voting fools!!

[sub]How to Train Your Dragon for Best Animated Picture! It was better than Toy Story!![/sub]

Aye, my best film of the year (inception) seems to have been snubbed and no other film seems to have a chance in winning anything as they're all getting over shadowed by a piece of professionally put together Oscar bait and a film that has had so much hype and praise that I honestly have no motivation to go see it and a guilty part in me actually wants it to fail*.

I honestly hoped Javier Bardeem would have gotten best actor for Beautiful however the Oscars aren't about talent now are they, there about who is owed an Oscar and who as been in line for one... So Firth will win this one, without a shadow of a doubt. I also was rooting for Bale to get an Oscar for his role in the Fighter but its not happening.

I'm probably going to get some flak for this but... Who is Banksy? Not heard of him.

As for animation, Toy Story 3 will win and I think it deserves its win. They did a good job with it, even if I am a little put off with it given how many times my niece as forced me to sit through it. However I sort of wished it had came out a little late so it would be up for next years award because I really, really, really liked How to train your Dragon. I was genuinely surprised by it, I expected another lazy piece of shit animation and what I got was a pretty damn good movie and a really strong contender for best animation. Its just not going to win it. The crew decided on a shitty year to release it. Lets face it, nothing this year was going to beat Toy Story 3.

*I shouldn't think like that as it seems a little immature, specially for a film I haven't seen and a film that may be amazing, however I'm just being honest. Seems the hype and praise as really put me off of it. So I'm probably going to avoid watching it for a while until the internet calms down about it, as I know if I watch it now... I'd probably nitpick it to death rather than enjoying the experience. I equate this to the feeling you get when you see someone coming on too strong.

Disagreed on the best score part. The best score was definitely not Daft Punk's Tron. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED that soundtrack. I bought it on cd first chance I got. But it's not Oscar-worthy. It's a tad bit too cliché for that, and besides a few truly creative tracks, way too much of it is standard Hans Zimmer-esque movie scoring 101.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross should win it for The Social Network. There's so much creativity in their score, it's nuts. I know Reznor took a lot of his material from his Ghosts albums, but that can be overlooked, since those songs fit the evening mood the entire movie breathes perfectly.

One thing that disappointed me that no even seems to be mentioning is that Tangled was not nominated for in the Best Animated feature department. I'm not sure if this is because people didn't see it or didn't like it, but I thought it was better than both How To Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3, and I really liked both of those movies. I did not expect to really like it, but Tangled blew me away with how beautifully the animation conveyed the character's emotions and in the way it refined, expanded, and improved on every aspect of the classic Disney Princess movie.

I'm sorry, but someone had to do that :D

Inception definitely deserves best soundtrack. When I was watching it, I literally just sat back and said "Wow, this is amazing music." Most of the time I notice a good soundtrack afterwords, because in the movie it's put in the background behind action and explosions, but in Inception, I was blown away right there.

You know, it's fine if you don't like the way the academy usually votes, but could people please for the love of god STOP MAKING STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT AGE! It doesn't even make any sense, there's over 6000 voters in the academy and they're all contemporaries in the film industry. The average age of a voter is in the mid 30s, so this sentiment could only be formed out of outright lies or rote stupidity.

Thanks for that, though I was sort of reminded who Banksy was when my little brother walked in the room and told me he was a pretty good graffiti artist and I sort of have a vague memory of who he is now. However I've only really heard his name around, don't know who he was or what he did. I don't know if what your telling me is true or not but I think I'll take your word on it.

Edit: Apparently, this was my 2000th post -pops party hat on and blows on one of those part horn thingies that unwravel when you blow, takes party hat off- well now back to reality.

Those two aren't even close to the best part of that soundtrack:

Battling the Green Death alone is worth the AA, the whole is should have propelled him to a seat in the "World Greatest Classical Composers Club" with the likes Beethoven, Bach, et al. And shame on Movie Bob for not being able to see that ;)

In Battling the Green Death, I am almost certain that John Powell uses 2/2, 3/4, 6/8 and 7/8 and in multiple instances uses 3/4 and 6/8, and 2/2 and 6/8 in tandem. Do you know how hard it is to keep your sanity writing for duplet and triplet time signatures at the same time... AND make it sound good, much less amazing!? I think he may have even snuck fugue in there somewhere just to fuck with us?

Well Bob, if you're unhappy with the Oscar nominations have a look at the nominations for the Empire Awards, with the nominees chosen solely by film geeks. http://www.empireonline.com/awards2011/vote/ You may be unhappy with Monsters getting some nominations but we British loved Monsters and embraced the technical marvels of a film made for £5000

I think the Banksy dig was more at the academy. They wont allow him to accept the award wearing a mask, a disguise or anything else to hide his identity. If 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' were to win he would have to reveal his identity to accept it. Since his fame is largely based on his anonymity it would be really damaging to his persona, hence the 'fifteenth minute' comment.

Also, the controversy over the missing Waiting for Superman is unwarranted. It's been proven to be full of factual inaccuracies and deliberate misrepresentation of the kid's stories. The director wants to prove his thesis that charter schools are so much better and the main thing to blame for poor education is the teacher's union, when in fact character schools across the country succeed and fail in the same proportion as public schools and in almost the same areas, showing that environment and parental involvement are far better indicators of success.

Best Picture: King's Speech (should be The Fighter)
Best Director: Social Network (should be Inception)
Best Actor:Colin Firth
Best Actress:Natalie Portman (Fuck Annette Benning. I really did not like that movie)
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo
Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Social Network

I highly disagree with you NinjaDeathSlap about Franco. Lacking a supporting cast doesn't make it a better performance.

MovieBob: Oscars 2011

MovieBob makes his predictions for this year's Academy Awards. (Spoiler: Christopher Nolan does not win Best Director!)

Watch Video
I'm with you on almost everything...

...but I just cannot understand your hard-on for the Tron score. I guess I'd really just want to know what your criteria are for what makes a movie score great, because the only thing about that score that stood out to me is the fact that it was "by Daft Punk." It's not that it sounded bad or anything... it's just kind of generic ambience.

I prefer my film scores to be a bit more participatory (without being too explicitly narrative). Tron's score was basically just "really good background music" to me, which is the kind of thing people only really love if they know the people that made it.

Hate to break it to some folks, but even brilliant artists can make mediocre products. Beethoven wrote an opera once. And it sucked. Hard.

So Bob's unfounded grudge against the Oscars continues because his sci-fi favorites aren't nominated?

At least the logic is sound [/sarcasm]

Also, seeing as Bob hasn't read the scripts that are nominated, it's pretty funny that there's an attempt to come off as knowing which one is better. As far as how they're written, Grit and King's Speech are easily the best, Inception as a written work is the worst and Social Network is the most enjoyable one, only marred by how it doesn't hold any scrutiny over the whole "this is almost a true story" thing.
Apart from Inception there werent that many good Sci-Fi movies this year. Tron Legacy was okish but indeed have one of the best musical scorers I have ever heard.

But, but, but.... Inception is the best film of 2010 :(

King's Speech? *sigh*

Really the fact that Braveheart and Titanic won Best Picture should warn us not to take the awards seriously at all.

The Social Network does not deserve an Oscar at all, that man's mustache is not thick enough to be a 70's porno mustache, and Toy Story 3 should win Best Picture.
HELLL NO
toy story 3 may have been good, but it relied quite heavily on nostalgia of people liking and knowing these characters beforehand. Stand it on its own and it loses a lot of its polish.

Oh and social network is worthy of it if only for the fact they made an interesting film on that topic. You find some1 else who can do that i dare you ^^

Who is "they" and how do you know Toy Story 3 relied heavyily on Nostalgia? Are you part of Pixar? I don't think so
]

the films makers?

and by watching it. It was heavily geared towards you having already known these characters well. People who hadn't seen the other two films feel a lot less strongly then yourself (several of my friends can vouch for this).
Well then I would assume that's why there was a flash back, also who would watch the third one without watching the first and second
