I haven't seen several of the films, but right now the best I've seen is The Kings Speech, so it's pretty good to see it getting the awards it deserves.
THANK YOU!

I'm why can't anyone accpet that it is a great film. Has no-one thought that the film makers were just trying to make a good movie and were delighted that it got all this adulation?

It's the marketers that postion a film for awards, usually the film makers just wanna make a good film.

Yeah I'm playing the Oscar Prediction game, last year I got 5 winners correct out of 25 so I'm planning to beat that this year now I have a good understanding of this years biggest films and the Academy's patterns.

Also I was extremely pissed that Tron: Legacy didn't get nominated for best original score, but it's probably for the best because if they were nominated and they won, no one would hear the end of me going on about my favourite musicians Daft Punk winning an Oscar.

The Social Network does not deserve an Oscar at all, that man's mustache is not thick enough to be a 70's porno mustache, and Toy Story 3 should win Best Picture.
HELLL NO
toy story 3 may have been good, but it relied quite heavily on nostalgia of people liking and knowing these characters beforehand. Stand it on its own and it loses a lot of its polish.

Oh and social network is worthy of it if only for the fact they made an interesting film on that topic. You find some1 else who can do that i dare you ^^

Who is "they" and how do you know Toy Story 3 relied heavyily on Nostalgia? Are you part of Pixar? I don't think so
]

the films makers?

and by watching it. It was heavily geared towards you having already known these characters well. People who hadn't seen the other two films feel a lot less strongly then yourself (several of my friends can vouch for this).
Well then I would assume that's why there was a flash back, also who would watch the third one without watching the first and second
people who weren't lucky enough to see it during their childhood?
not everyone has unlimited time. Most people go to the cinema to see A MOVIE so unsurprisingly some won't have seen the originals, likewise to the new TRON film. And a flash back doesn't provide the same emotional pull as an entire film. My point was (and still stands as) without the experience of the previous films it doesn't hold up. Hell it's not even the best animated flick of the year.

I meant seeing the movies now, what do you think (animated film) should win best picture?....of 2010

The (Biggest) thing that I don't like about the Oscars is basicly the same thing that I don't like about the auteur film theory. They are both fundamentally based around the facist idea that one leader is solely responsible for the achievments of a group and that this is commendable.

Does any other area in contemporary society get away with this?

I would be happy if the King's speech goes home with no oscars, just for once I'd like to see the oscar bait movie fall flat on it's face.

I am praying to Raptor Jesus that How to Train Your Dragon upsets Pixar and scores Best Animated Feature, and just to stretch my hope to breaking point, I want it to win best Original Score too.

Case in point
That was a very underappriecated film. I love kids movies and along with "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs" and "Fantastic Mr.Fox", I thought it was the best kids film last year... or was "Cloudy" the year before? I forget, still it did not get the credit it deserved. The scene against the Dragon Queen was nuts and looked amazing as well as the ending being oddly poinent.

Also, oh my God Zodiac was bad, Ive disagreed with Bob before but my word that film was awful!

To be honest, I was kind of hoping that Scott Pilgrim would get some kind of mention or nod myself (at least I don't think it did, I may have missed something). I guess it's not surprising to anyone, especially given it was a movie that many likely considered a 'younger person' or 'nerd' movie due to the entire idea of it, and the people chosing the nominations and who wins don't care about anything dealing with either of those. But I am still disappoint. That was easily my favorite movie of the year, and the director's style did so much for it in terms of making the action from the books fit the screen and adapting the books into a single movie that I think it should have got some attention at least. But I guess after seeing how it did in the box-office, it really isn't that surprising...

Anyways, I personally hope Inception or Social Network wins best picture. I'm leaning more towards Social Network, mainly because I think they took a concept that was, at best, a horrible idea to make a movie on, and made it into an amazing movie with a great cast, great score, and that held my attention the entire way through even given the subject matter.

Bob's little comments on what should win but, was only nominated for show or just wasn't even nominated reminded me why I don't care about these award shows.

The day Daft Punk performs one of their songs in their Alive pyramid in the Oscars will be the day I consider watching the Oscars.

At least they may get a mention for 'Sound Editing'...

That aside, it does seem to be pretty obvious.

I would love to see Toy Story 3 get Best picture, it is a truly deserving movie, and it's a shame that it will get the Best Animated award and thus be "ineligible" because of it.

Since the best movie can't win, my favorite to win it is The Social Network, since unlike TKS it doesn't sacrifice entertainment to tell the story.

On topic: http://www.collegehumor.com/article:1813885

I guess I'm not the only one who believes Toy Story 3 is the best movie of the year :)

I'd agree Inception might not win because once you peel off the mind bending effects and it's all a dream state. Inception is still just like Shutter Island with Leonardo's character getting over a wife's death. (I know that isn't what Shutter Island was really all about but just bare with me for "In a nutshell" sake) however I did find Inception's music wonderful and every time I listen to a track it pulls me back to said scene. Toy Story 3 is most likely going to win and I'm not even gonna talk about the others because I didn't even see them. So that's my 2 cents about the only two movies that are nominated that I saw...all year. Hurray for movie tickets going up like gas prices.

Oscars are a big farce anyways. The industry votes for the industry, it's all a self congratulatory pat on the back, "look, aren't we great".

As for Christopher Nolan, when I read he's attached to a film, I generally avoid it. Why? Because he gets so much love for being bland. The films themselves aren't bad, but they aren't very good either.
I'm sorry, have you SEEN Memento?

Listen Bob... you have a problem...

you keep hounding on the King's Speech and it's REALLY getting old.

Look I know it's an inspirational been done before type of film, but it is a really good been done before film and those who actually liked it are getting tired of hearing about it.

Also I know the Oscars are sunday but you should have reviewed Drive Angry which was AWESOME.

Oh well I learned to not give a shit about the Oscars a long time ago since my choices never win and the movie that is the most british always wins best costume.

I'm actually upset that Toy Story 3 will win best animated because even though I loved it, I loved How to Train your Dragon more.

Anyways here's to hoping that Natalie Portman wins just so she can get the Oscar F-bomb award from Conan.

Of all of his films, it's the best. Still not groundbreaking or incredible, which is how people treat him.
