Good stuff, I recall Evolution, no one seemed to like it but me for some reason.

Also I don't think I got the memo about having to hate This Ashton guy. I got the more recent one about that douchebag from the Twilight movies but hell I can't even remember his name.

Shows how much I pay attention.

The best kind of review; you play your cards on the table, you acknowledge who this movie is for, and you explain the movie in a way that alienates no one, regardless of whether they like this sort of movie or not. Pretty useful review.

My only issue is the final part, in which you describe Portman's character as an unusual inversion of the kooky guy, straight faced girl.

So Portman plays a manic pixie dream girl eh? Hasn't she done that before? Hasn't lots of romances done the same thing before? It doesn't sound that innovative when you consider a character like that has appears in nearly every other rom com ever since the brilliant Bringing Up Baby (who hadn't invented the idea, either). It isn't a bad thing, but I don't see how it is anything worth mentioning.

Movie Bob,

As is usually the case, I am on the same page as you when it comes to this and the last couple movies. However, I do have a request if I may:

Unless the movie is politically charged or politics have something to do with a major story arc, can you cut the political commentary? I come to this site to get away from all that crap and watch shows that have nothing to do with the accusations of right hates left and vice versa. After all, this site is called the "Escapist". (Edit)"I have seen some remarks that enjoy your comments but I feel that I should make you aware that there are other, differing views." (End Edit)

I can feel the flame war starting already, but I honestly feel I must make this request because you have done it (if memory serves correctly) in each of your last three reviews, none of which I felt were political in any way.

Thanks. (Begin flame war....NOW!)

Is the punch line to this "the aristocrats?"

All of the cast's costumes for the new X-Men movie pale in comparison to Cap's look. Seriously, I know Emma Frost wears skimpy stuff, but that looked more like someone Photoshopped a Victoria's Secret model into the lineup. And I have no idea who the red guy behind her is, or anyone else, for that matter (except for "recycled" Mystique and Beast). There's paying homage to the source material, while being practical (i.e.: Captain America), and then theirs blatant, uninspired fanservice.

Edit: I do acknowledge the "alleged" point, but still. It's such a sloppy teaser, if you ask me.

Why does the spyglass entertainment logo shows up around 3:05? It flashes there for an instant, right after "of course not".
SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES IN MOVIEBOB'S VIDEOS?!?!

I kid. Still, I admit to replaying the video a few times until I could stop exactly at the right moment and read the message that I could notice but not read...

Interesting review by the way. Yeah, In & Out was cool, but to me L.A. Story still stands as the greatest rom-com of all time. Not exactly traditional, but I think it's the best Steve Martin movie I've ever seen.

I feel the same way about romantic comedies from the last 20 years ("Roxanne" is still my favorite one ever). I am glad that as a reviewer, Bob can look at the movie for what it is. I probably won't pay to see it, but if it's ever streaming on Netflix, I'll stick it in the queue.

WHY is Ashton Kutcher on the list of people we're supposed to hate?

This is Hollywood. They didn't acknowledge that interracial romances existed until 1967.
To be fare Movie Bob, THE ENTIRE SOUTH didn't acknowledge them either.
They do now?

a... good, romantic comedy? what the hell? may as well have it on backup for dates that go awry. also. kutcher or however you spell it, not actually a bad guy. railroaded and typcast to hell and back yes, but i still remember the that 70's show days when it hadn't been worn out

Anyone else get a total sense of deju vu when Bob was explaining the general idea of the movie...
Yeah, the entire video I was thinking, this sounds a lot like "Zack and Miri make a porno". Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it's one of the few romantic comedies I like.

YES Evolution was underrated and i pitty most of the human race for not seeing it. YEs ashton Kutcher is a good actor, i never understood why people didn't like him. IT'S FUCKING KELSO! you must love! (okay punk'd was over done and eventually became a parody of itself)

R rating. If it's a romantic comedy that isn't afraid to doing something out of the box, it will usually be pretty okay. Talking about sex as young adults instead of birds and bees for small children or bedroom alone time for old people accepting it as part of a relationship is a good step and not stripping away what is and isn't true is going to earn an R rating. All of that is good. Plus reverse gender roles is also a bold move. So congrats to Holly wood for taking baby steps.

Alrighty then, interested I am.

Never had a problem with Kutcher, don't even really know him, and I don't think I've ever seen any of his movies. I think he's one of those stars I missed the rise of, but came back in time for the inevitable internet backlash.

Also, I want to congratulate Bob on a review of a movie featuring Natalie Portman that contained no long segue into how hot she is. There is progress after all. I'm starting to think my prediction about the review of 'Your Highness' might get proven wrong after all.
