Loved the intro.
Im an American and Im not the least bit interested in Saw.
Gore is fine in small quantiteis, but the just rip people apart in that movie... constantly.
Truth be told, I never knew they made a 4th one till I saw a trailer for the 5th. :p

Movie sucked

and did he Imply that the second Saw movie was even remotely watchable and not the absolute worst of a series that was never good at any point.

Don't get me wrong, I love these reviews. In fact, this show is one of my favorites on the Escapist. That said, I can't help but notice that "Movie Bob" seems to love just about every movie he sees. So basically, I'm stuck between mainstream critics hating everything and Bob loving everything. I think that this show could be a hell (pun semi-intended) of a lot better if he was more objective in his reviewing.
Bob disliked Jennifer's Body, Twilight, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And he did have some gripes with the new Star Trek and bemoaned the lost potential in Terminator: Salvation (and apparently X-Men Origins: Wolverine if the references to it in his reviews over the summer say anything), so he's not just pandering to everything.

I'm not into horror movies, so I probably won't see this movie... Good news is, though, I also won't be seeing Saw VI anytime soon!

Well, the bubble has gotta be burst. There is no way this will outperform Saw at the Box-office. That is wishful thinking at its most egregious. Kinda like that one guy a little while ago who said that if his game out sold Madden 10 he would give his game away for free. Wishful thinking...

Anyway, I'll probably go see this, but only when it hits the cheap theaters so I'll only be adding $2.00 to the total box-office receipts either slightly before or just after it's released on DVD.
What are you talking about? The movie IS outselling Saw 6 at the box office.

As of right PA has made over 61mil and has pulled in 21mil for this week alone (5th week of release), and with the hype it's bound to make more.

As for Saw 6 its pulled in a little over 14mil for it's first week.

Right now Paranormal Activity is wiping the floor with that over bloated hollywood crapfest of a horror movie.

Maybe you should base your estimates on actually facts instead of your imagination...0o

...

Anyways the film was good as in it had good build up and dare to speak of in a horror flick, characters you actually liked...well except for Mika who was a complete dumbass...lol

But the movie did get a bit boring with me because I guess the film had too much build up.

The major problem I see with this movie is that, beyond my other critiques, seeing it in a theater makes it much much less effective. Maybe its because I had an over jumpy black lady behind me screaming or shouting when anything happened (and I mean anything) but for me this kind of movie would work better in your house. It takes place in the house, fucks with you because it removes your sense of safety in your home and when you sleep; so obviously seeing the movie in your house would probably make you a little more frightened.

I also hated the male lead because he was "brave" to the point of inhuman stupidity. He's like that one intro chick in the beginning of any slasher film, who goes and checks out some lost ruins or haunted basement or something; he's too stupid to live. That and the film had some many cliches that I could guess what the ending, middle and beginning would be like before even seeing it (girls are always the haunted ones, the guys are always the antagonizing force for the ghosts, they always find out it's happened before just before shit gets really bad, etc.) This plus the fact that the actual hauntings piss weak till the near end. I know they were trying to add tension but they drug it out so long that the tension they built had time to subside and greatly undermined the ending.

Oh and there were a couple impossible shots, especially early on.

Over all it bored me, and thats disappointing because I love a good thriller or suspense horror. And yeah, every saw since the first one has sucked, and even the first one has it's silliness. But I think we can ALL agree the first one was better then the next ones.

*sigh* Take a look at the date and time I wrote that comment. Friday morning; a little while before most theaters opened their doors for the day. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I was proven wrong and the little-horror-that-could was kicking the ass of a series that got stale quite a while ago. This is gonna be sweet revenge:

Maybe you should double-check the facts before making an arse of yourself in your reply.

I making an arse out of my self? You're the one coming out saying...

"There is no way this will outperform Saw at the Box-office. That is wishful thinking at its most egregious."

You made it sound like there was no way in hell it could happen, even so far as to sound like a Saw fanboi not wanting it to happen..and you were proven completely wrong. People assuming too much is a pet peeve of mine...>=(

Just remember assumption is the mother of all fuck ups...and you're the one that made an arse out of yourself..;)

I keep hearing it's extremely bland and such, though, I suppose the people I hear them from are pretty bad in movie choice...

I agree most people who say they hate saw have never seen the movies. I have watched all of the Saw movies and feel it is one of the best written horror series ever, with all its twists and turns it never gets old.

The FIRST "Saw" was damn near perfect for what it was, a genuinely great film. "Saw 2" was pretty decent in it's own right. The series has been basically useless from #3 on, and since #4 it's also been pointlessly complicated. #5 is literally two movies going on at the same time that had NOTHING to do with one-another.

#6 is, at least, entertaining... but only as comedy since they've decided to transform it into a socially-relevant "message movie" about Universal Health Care. No, really, that's the "hook" of "Saw 6": Jigsaw takes on the Insurance Industry. It's BREATHTAKINGLY silly.

My wife has been really wanting to see this and I've been on the fence. I'm so over the modern 'torture porn' aesthetic of most horror films coming out, that I've been a bit cold on the whole genre. And Quarantine kind of burned me out on handheld horror (though I'm told [REC], the Spanish movie it was a remake of, is quite good).

But your review has convinced me. I'll give it a try. Nice work.

Quarantine missed its niche mostly (and that's a shame) because THE LAST SHOT IS SEEN IN THE TRAILER
The fact that I didn't see any trailer for Paranormal Activity helped it, I think, and yes, this wins by breaking the 'safe zone' boundaries. This is the main reason why it worked on me. (just came back from seeing it, worth my time)

The only thing I wanted to add was that I, like I hope others have said, felt that the Saw series is and has always been waste garbage that just defies logic as to why it's actually popular still.. or ever was at all, for that matter.

That all said, I do wanna see Paranormal Activity. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to wait for a DVD release.

Wanna save some time and money on paranormal activity? slam your door a few times, stomp around the house, and yell a lot. I've seen scarier things in public toilets and they don't cost 9$ to see.

you actually liked Saw >.< I just found it to be stupid myself :/ I just found it to be contrived and poorly written and.... just... well..... stupid, kind of like how I feel about peoples outrage to it. In fact their outrage portrays the film as far worst than it actually is, which is probably what has once again elevated a film out of the shadows. But I fail to see any redeeming qualities in that film, sorry :/

They made a Saw beyond 3?!...wow. Ballsy.

Totally want to see this, and Cloverfield was not so bad, just American teens are drunk, omgawding assholes.

Now when are they gonna make an Aliens 3 where the Xenos are smuggled to Earth by The Company and Ridley/daughter has to put the hurt on a global 28 Days later feeding frenzy?

Marines and everything, but no friggin' Predator.(btw the game looks insane!)

That would be good Horror/Action.

He hit the nail on the head with Cloverfield (which I also liked a lot).

Nothing will ever scare me more though than the first time I saw "The Ring" alone in the middle of the night.

I thought it was a bad movie, the ending was too sudden with very little satisfaction. It wasn't that scary, and the people in the movie didn't react as real people would, they didn't do all they could do. Once you have filmed evidence of impossible things happening without anyone around, would you not find a secure location and/or use every possible means (the internet) of protecting yourself rather than trusting in your ability to kick the ass of some insubstantial manifestation of evil.

tl;dr It sucked.
