The year is 2010. Escapism Academy is one of the most well-renowned high schools in all of Escapia. Students are taught the ways of the world in a number of lessons including science, first aid and basic asskickery. Supernatural powers and technology-fueled battles run rampant in the halls, in addition to the standard friendship, laughter and drama that could be expected of a group of ultra-powered teenagers. Relationships are formed and grow every day, and a student can be guaranteed to graduate with a few lifelong friends by the end of their run.
Unfortunately, all is far from perfect; the school is facing budget cuts. The main benefactor, Ben ?Yatzhee? Croshaw, has decided that more money needs to be put towards a better education so that children can grow up faster and not be so (to quote) ?cockdribblingly annoying?. Several of the extracurricular clubs are to be cut, and the school board have decided to let the students decide which clubs survive by sending them to war against one another; every Friday, during club activity time, one of the clubs must fall, and on that day one or more of the clubs will assail one or more of the others, forcing them to disband to avoid getting picked off themselves via random selection of the student council.
Many of the clubs have formed alliances, but most simply clash with the others. Sports teams use their muscle to take on the advanced weapons of the Arts and Sciences Association, the Multinational Language Treaty protecting each other from attacks from the Animation Society, with many of the independent clubs stuck in the middle. Several of the factions, and even the independent clubs, are taking action against one another and secure their place in Escapism Academy for years to come.
Well, as you can tell, this is just for fun and is going to be, in no way, serious.

Contrary to what the OP may suggest, the Club Battles only play a fairly minor role in the way the RP is played; gameplay will take place over the five days of a school week, plus saturday: on weekdays, the players will experience a period at the beginning of the day wherein they can hang out with their mates, followed by one lesson a day to avoid tedium, then another short break period which shall either be followed by club activities (on Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or the end of the day (Tuesday and Thursday). On Friday, during the club activity period the clubs shall have a war meeting, then select another club or more and send a challenge to them, then do battle with them (as listed above).
Saturdays will be different; these are days for characters to simply hang out with their mates and engage in typical social activities. Though you may expect the members of rival clubs to be fierce enemies, they're actually often on quite friendly terms outside of the club fights, and a lot of them will be stabbing at each other's throats one minute, then going out for coffee the next. Really, the fights only have a small effect on the RP as a whole.

Each character will have two powers; one that is linked to the character personally and can really be anything within reason, and another themed around the club they are aligned with. A member of the fencing team, for instance, may have the ability to summon a sword to hand and jab people with it.
There are twelve clubs the players can join; the player limit for each club is three, and there's a chance every week that one of the clubs will be dissolved, leaving the members of that club to drift off and either ally themselves with who they see fit, or leave the club business behind them and simply stick to the regular interactions/minor skirmishes that may occur against other players. The clubs available are as follows:
Basketball team
Soccer team
Art society
Drama club
Fencing team
Gaming club
Anime club
Science club
Cheerleading squad
Music group
Occult club
Creative writing society

Escapia is a fairly cartoonish realm; it's similar to Earth in many respects, though there are a number of fantastical elements woven in, such as the aforementioned powers. Day-to-day life is almost identical to that of the real world, though of course there are subtle differences due to the unearthly elements. Most important to note is that death is usually rather cheap, at least in battle; if a person is slain by another using their power, they'll simply respawn a few hours later without any of the possessions they had on them at time of death. This is in no small part the reason the school board have advocated the club battles. It also means that fights in the school (outside of class) are treated a lot less seriously than they would in the real world, due to the vast unlikelihood of anyone sustaining a serious injury; the universe is cartoonish, and even if somehow someone did manage to break both their arms and legs in a fight, they'd probably just get 'em stuck in plaster and turn up at school the next day, right as rain.

Here is a sample sheet, for measuring your own to:
Name: Thomas Alcott
Nickname: Donkey
Age: 16
Appearance: Large, dark blonde afro type hair, a stained green jacket (one of the only clothes he wears everywhere), large sunglasses, wears mainly dirty T-shirts and old jeans. Is somewhat tall for his age, has blue eyes, and has slightly burned finger tips on his left hand.
Club: Science Club
Biography: Lived with a relatively wealthy family and had a rather good family life, and still does, but has become slightly distant from his parents after they found out that he was smoking marijuana. During the incident in which they found out, Thomas burned his left hand, resulting in permanent burns on his left hand. Since then, his parents had shipped him to Escapism Academy in an effort to help him get off of the drug. However, this did little to deter him, and he kept smoking it anyway, his parents hundreds of miles away and the staff nearly ineffectual.
Over his first year at EU, he gained the nickname ?Donkey? due to him being like a pack mule for when it comes to carrying things, as well as being extremely stubborn during the few times when he was sober. Besides that, however, he is normally very calm and collected.
Primary Power: Uses a laser-sword/lighter
Secondary Power: can make a smoke screen that can impair vision and cause a light headedness for others in the fog.
Other: Doesn?t like to talk about his home life and doesn?t like killing.
