*Minor Spoilers*

A Question from S3E02: If there is gun-porn and car-porn, did we just see crossbow-porn? I think the only other instance of this may be in First Knight and now I cannot unsee it.

I find pre-episode recaps spoil too much about the episode I am about to watch. For instance, in S3E01 I knew Barristan Selmy was the faux-assassin because of the recap namedrop and it was nearing the end of the episode without any sign of him otherwise.

What do you mean by spoilers? Anything and everything book and show?

I would kind of like to assume you won't spoil anything past the current episode of the show, otherwise I'm not sure I understand the point of this because the only people who should listen are those who are caught up on both the book and the show (or don't care about spoilers I suppose) ... and I thought this was supposed to be a podcast on the show, and now I'm afraid to listen :(

Sure, should be. I mean, we'll be talking about stuff that is in the book but not the show, but we don't really jump ahead too much, or anything. We don't, for example, say "Oh, such and such person's death must be happening later this season!!" We mostly just discuss the first two episodes and how they relate (or don't) to the books.

I thought you give the show too much trouble for how they introduced the Brotherhood.

I don't remember how they were mentioned in the first season, but the fact that the Lannister troops in Harrenhall were torturing about everyone they got their hands on to death just to get some intel on it, made it pretty clear to me that they had to be important somehow.

I also wasn't too surprised about them capturing the Hound... I mean, he was on his way from King's Landing to the Wall, just like Arya was before she was snatched.

I just want to say the Tyrells are my new favorite people. I think the crew made Margaery a stronger character in the show than George managed to in the books. Maybe I'm forgetting a few integral scenes but I don't recall her commanding anywhere the presence portrayed in the show. She was a character I mostly glossed over. They hit home every bit she was in.

I too was incredibly disappointed with the white walker attack resolution. No battle. No dragon glass. No on screen deaths. Nuttin. Just Sam screwed up again. And now we get to go back home with our tails between our legs.

These two episodes felt like midseason exposition rather than opening spectacles. Hopefully that means they are putting their effort into developing the story (though as you covered, they failed at a couple bits). I haven't reread the third book yet so maybe the deviations won't come across too poorly and they pick up the few threads they left hanging later on in the season. I'm mildly concerned and cautiously optimistic at the same time.

This podcat made me realize what has been missing from the scenes in the Riverlands and surroundings: burning farms. A few glimpses in the riding scenes or establishing shots would really help create a backdrop for the Brotherhood without Banners. In the books we are told how devastating the passage of armies has been to the peasantry, but the series has not fortified the idea enough. There's the excellent scene in the first series where the farmer tells Ned of the ravaging of the Riverlands, and we hear of fugitives in the second series, but we never really see the desolation on-screen. Burn some logs in the shape of a cabin and throw in a line about Cat's family's lands being burnt - it would help.

This..... Yes this........

Where was Janelle? It's always fun to get her perspective on GoT because she hasn't read the books.... I was disappointed that she wasn't included in the podcat.

BTW, Sam's slaying of a White Walker does not happen during the battle on the Fist of the First Men. It happened during the retreat to Craster's Keep. Which is yet to happen on the show, so don't be so fast to complain about it.

Nope. They drop some major spoiler bombs for future books.

It is amazing how these Podcats are point for point the same as the conversations that my fiancée and I are having after the show.

At 42:00 minutes you forgot the other Mad King and Johanna (sp?) rumour. The theory is that Tyrion is Tywin's only child. This is based on the evidence that Aerys was drunk and way too involved in the bedding during Tywin's wedding, leading many to believe he took Liege lord Privileges and bedded Johanna(sp?). Genna (Tywin's sister) tells Jaime or Cersei (can't remember) that Tywin only ever had one true son, and it wasn't Jamie. Since Cersei and Jamie are twins, if Tywin isn't Jamie's father, he isn't Cersei's. This is further supported by Cersei's obsession with fire and Jofferey (her sons) madness. This is even brought up in later books when Joffrey is referred to as just like the mad king (Aerys).

Ser Barriston to Daenerys. ?Prince Aerys . . . as a youth, he was taken with a certain lady of Casterly Rock, a cousin of Tywin Lannister. When she and Tywin wed, your father drank too much wine at the wedding feast and was heard to say that it was a great pity that the lord?s right to the first night had been abolished. A drunken jape, no more, but Tywin Lannister was not a man to forget such words, or the . . . the liberties your father took during the bedding.?

This is the one i buy into.

The story with the Manticore and and Barristan was almost the same as it was in the books when they first meet. Except instead of a child, it was an old man assassin from Quarth that gave her a lavish box.

Wait, what Arstan Whitebeard is Barristan Selmy? I totally never picked that up in the book. I mean wouldn't Jorah of maybe mentioned that little detail as I'm assuming they must have known or been aware of each other before Jorah was exiled.
