I'm not sure how this will work, but I am curious about what it would be like. Also I don't like the name, maybe they should have just called it "Hyrule" or something.

...I know there are multiple races in the Zelda universe, but I just can't see this being done well or plausibly. Hyrule (and a couple of other places) have needed one guy (albeit multiple reincarnations, but still all the same guy) to save them over and over again. If everyone else in Hyrule suddenly became compentent heroes, Ganondorf (and Vaati, and whoever else is a major recurring villain) wouldn't stand a chance.

Zelda Universe is just a website hub for all games Zelda. Nintendo just chose to let the ESRB rate it since it's important to them.

will not play. the only nintendo ip that lends itself to an mmo is pokemon. gimme a pokemon mmo and i will be happy.
Exactly this, Pokemon is dieing for an MMO, just wait for 2-3 more generations and they'll just throw all the land masses together. If done right it'll be super awesome and will at least completely take over the MMO market for Japan.
There was a pokemon MMO, it was phenomenal. It was fan made and somehow everything anyone could have wanted. IT was sooo much fun. Then Nintendo caught wind of it and shut it down.

This. So few comments on any website state this, and it's ridiculous. It's sites misreporting the situation in order to get hits.

There is not a Zelda MMO, but if there is, it will not be called Zelda Universe.

Now, "Zelda Universe" is the name of the <a href=http://www.zelda.com/universe/?ref=http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=zelda+universe>official Zelda website. That said, the ESRB doesn't rate web content.
I think you missed something.

I had played it briefly a fair while back. But I mean like a full on 3d Pokemon. It's not like Nintendo doesn't have the capital to make it happen, they could probably fund the entire project on the profit they've made from selling 5.5 million copies of B/W.

Man.. Ugh.. It just won't happen and it makes me really sad, it'd be a great property for a large scale MMO.

Ehh... I wouldnt play it, but not because I think its a bad idea
More to the effect I gave up hope for nintendo long ago.

Honestly, I think the biggest hurdle to this isnt the lore. Its Nintendos understanding of how the internet works. That might make this sort of problematic.

Friend code my ass

Agreed. Nintendo must have hit their head or something. making mmo's of things nobody wants, like reading this I didn't see any positive feedback, then everyone is screaming for Pokemon mmo! I mean like WTF?

It could just be a collection Four Swords-ish games or literally anything. "Online" is a very broad category and does not immediately imply "MMORPG."

Besides, they'd be crazy not to work on a Pokemon MMO first.

Great guys, great. This is what happens when you complain about a series not changing enough.
Zelda doesn't need to change... it needs to die.

I loved some of the games, but enough is enough.

Why does everyone think MMO when they hear Zelda Universe? The first thing I thought of was a collection of all the games, but then realizing that would be weird for a 25th anniversary thing, I think Nintendo is finally going to tell us the timeline! :D

Why does everyone always say this? Pokémon does not need to be an MMO. Training and battling all already online, and that's the only part of the games you need other players for. Having random idiots following me around begging for rare Pokémon and other crap that random idiots do in MMOs would only serve to make the game WORSE.

Oh, joy. Another one of my favorite franchises may succumb to the MMO market. I'll never stop asking for Knights of the Old Republic 3

Though I really see nothing there that suggests a Zelda MMO. The title could mean a number of things.

If there truly be an mmo Nintendo, let it be Pokemon.
If it not truly be Pokemon, and is Zelda then I will laugh at the men wearing skirts while brooding about not having a palm tree follow me everywhere.
