ESRB Spoils Twisted Metal's Scissor Face-Stabbing

Killing hospital patients. Severed heads. Stabbing people in the face with scissors? Yup, it's a Twisted Metal game.

The new <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Twisted-Metal-sony-playstation3/dp/B003O6KWZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325797606&sr=8-1>Twisted Metal is due to be released next month, which means that the ESRB has finally announced the game's rating. Spoiler alert: The rating starts with "M" and ends with "ature" because it includes crazy violence and swearing.

The Twisted Metal titles have always been known for ultra-violence that's so intense it teeters on the edge of becoming satire, but the new game sounds like it'll be <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll7rWiY5obI>turning things all the way up to eleven. Here's the ESRB's ratings summary:

This is a combat racing game in which players assume the role of contestants battling for supremacy in a competition called Twisted Metal. As players drive through urban landscapes, they can use chainsaws, machine guns, flame throwers, and missiles to destroy other vehicles; races are highlighted by realistic gunfire and over-the-top explosions. Players can also choose to run over fleeing pedestrians, resulting in large blood-splatter effects. One mode's objective is to capture enemy leaders; a large blood trail is depicted as screaming characters are dragged behind players' vehicle. A variety of live-action sequences depict more intense acts of violence: a serial killer getting stabbed in the face with scissors; a woman holding a bloodied saw and severed head; a character stabbing hospital patients with a machete; a woman bleeding from the neck and lying on the street. The word "motherf**ker," "sh*t," and "a*shole" can be heard in the dialogue.

That sounds like it's in keeping with the rest of the series, but I'm kind of surprised that <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Tooth_(Twisted_Metal)#Sweet_Tooth>Sweet Tooth isn't mentioned at all.

Twisted Metal is scheduled to hit stores on February 14th. Remember, nothing says "I love you" like flamethrowers and scissors to the face.

Only one thing matters. The music.

TM: Black had fucking awful music and a way too dark atmosphere. Bring back the wacky and "happy" metal from TM2 and I'm iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin.

Edit: Also, make it fast. If we have another console pushover catastrophe I'm gonna cry. Its gotta be fast enough to be hard to control. Twister+turbo on rooftops in TM2...hard and fun. That kind of controls please.

Some of the stuff the ESRB describes sounds like something you couldn't do in a car. Are there section of gameplay where you're not in the car?

Those would be the live-action sequences. One would imagine the would be cutscenes.

On a side note, is Twisted Metal really coming out next month? Bloody hell, that game got announced, and then disappeared. They haven't done a great job of building the hype, have they?

I don't think "realism" was on the menu.

Wait... the new Twisted Metal game comes out on Valentine's Day? Even people not in a relationship can still have a happy Valentine's Day full of murdering people.
