What was formerly known as Project Truman turned out to be EU IV.

Thoughts?

I'm hoping for an improvement on the EU III interface, and a dynamic ruler system similar to Crusader Kings II. There's so much they can do with this.

I'm certainly excited. I can't believe it's been five years since EU3 came out. I swear it feels like it was just yesterday. Can you tell me what you mean by dynamic ruler? Or do you just mean the system of controlling the royal family and such, cause that would be very nice.

I've always liked the openness of these games, completely changing history and such. I remember my France playthrough, I beat the English to the New World, and then kept them out. So, if we were living in the world I'd created, all us Americans would be Frenchies.

Edit: Given the previous project name, one would almost be certain it was going to be a Hearts of Iron sequel

Well, map looks identical, and the closeup they have of Denmark suggests that none of them has ever looked at a map of Denmark, so points off for that, and the text:

- Use your Monarch Power: Experience the new system of monarch power where your spread of choices is influence by the caliber of the man you have at the top. Do you have a warrior King? Then it is time to make war.

Suggests that much of the game will be locked away for you and dependant upon rulers just like politics was completely destroyed between HoI II and HoI III. =/

Hasn't the Denmark thing always been an mistake in all the games?

Edit: Actually, It looks fine to me. I don't know what the problem is.
Edit #2: Actually, I noticed the islands, they are pretty messed up.

I bought the latest one during the Steam sale. I really want to get into it, but man it's proving hard. I hope they add a better tutorial this time round.

The map still looks..okay.

I wish it was closer to Total War: Empire's map. That thing was beautiful.

Except their most recent release, Crusader Kings II, bucks that trend. It might be the same with EU IV.

Crusader Kings 2 is the best Paradox game so far, so I'm glad that they are copying that.
Ah, CKII. Good times. Goooood times. I united and ruled the Welsh nation under a lesbian religious heretic queen with a heart of gold. Her people gave her the Title: The Just.

Fuck yeah.

I supposed I can expand on that. While I like a lot of the additions CK2 made to the general Grand Strategy formula, I prefer the more impersonal feel of EU, acting as the "spirit" of the nation, so to speak.

Having different rulers change the dynamic of how you play the country somewhat does sound very interesting though... and new tutorial mode? Thank Christ. I want more people to enjoy these great series, and their tutorials are always pretty weak.

Can't wait, will especially like to see what they can change. Making leaders more important may be good, depends on how limiting the process is.

Hurray? Never exactly been a fan of this type of grand strategy, 4X game, so the news does nothing for me. But it is good news for the fans of the series, so hurray for them. :)

I hope so indeed. The idea of the grand strategy genre really appeals to me but it seems that pretty much every game I try already assumes that I'm familiar with the whole spiel.

But I'm not so please give me a break here. Don't dumb it down but make a tutorial that smooths out the learning curve so I can enjoy the scope that such a game brings.

I doubt that they will have rulers the way they have them in CK2. If memory serves, I think they have stated before back when EU3 was new, that they will be sticking to the simple rulers since EU is not a dynasty game.

As for the announcement

Its deliberate, the studio is in Sweden and the Swedes hate the Danes.

I Can't wait to mod this, here's hoping for a Death and Taxes mod! :3

Shame about Magna Mundi though

Also Co-op feature? waaaaaaaat? how is that a feature? The only time i let anyone co-op a nation with me is when they were new and didn't want to have a nation to start in one of our 8+ player games. Seems a bit of a silly thing to even mention.

Not seeing any dazzling features that will make me want to get the game to be honest, at least not for 30 Euro or more.
