Got the idea from How I Met Your Mother when Ted tells Robin he loves her on the first date. Have you ever said to a girl or guy you like, "I love you", just without warning and at the completely wrong time?

No. I haven't even been out on a date with a girl...

Cool, we have birthday on the same day!

OT: I've never said it because it implies a lot. For me, it's when you care for a person unconditionally. I only have that feeling for my close family. I've never felt like that for a girl I've dated.

But saying "I love you" is very awkward for me, so even those I do love, I don't think I can blurt it out.

In a way...

When I was about 16, I had a girlfriend who I had been dating for about 1 month in school, and as we were going off to our classes she said, "Ok, bye I love you" and just by reflex(?) I said, "I love you too" immediately afterward, I was in shock that I had said it without thinking. It resulted in an interesting conversations between me and her later.

Afraid? No. Petrified? Yes.

Sort of, I say the phrase all the time in place if "Thank you", for example, but people who don't know me so well don't know that. So let's just say this leads to quite a few priceless weird looks.

I don't want to get judgmental, but that might have to do with the fact that you spend all your time posting here.

Never happened just like that, despite all the devaluation the word "love" had, it still means a lot.

However, I usually make it absolutely sure that I want to go for a deep relationship before I start dating a girl, so the few times that I have said "I love you", it was still too early for them.

Although I know someone who tosses the phrase around so casually that in her case, it really feels like having no meaning at all...
