Are there any games that you got, at any point in your life, where you couldn't even get past on of the beginning points without outside help (like a walkthrough)? Please share.

For me the one that comes to mind was the fellowship of the ring for ps2. I was young when i got it and couldn't get past a part right after the intro where you had to sneak past ringwraiths for weeks, probably even months.

I sort of expected this thread to be about dying on the first level...'cause I've done that in Super Mario Bros. more times than I'd care to admit. I've never been stuck like that, though.

Ghosts and Goblins. We actually purchased this monstrosity of a title. Never got past the second level. Who play tested that thing?!

There's lots of 8 and 16-bit games that are exceedingly short, and -- to nonetheless ensure a lasting challenge -- difficult even in their earliest stages. Ghosts 'N Goblins and Ghouls 'N Ghosts come to mind almost immediately; even the first levels of these can be a tad trying.

An old 7-th Guest style adventure game, Secrets of the Luxor.

Could never figure out the first couple of puzzles.

That and if you click on the electrical outlet in the first room of the game, (your hotel room, BTW) you get electrocuted and die.

No, seriously! What do you fucking do, lick it? It's retarded as all Hell.

Deus Ex

My Fn keys weren't toggled so i had to re-enter. Then i somehow got stuck in crouch and spent the whole getting over the river scene walking in slow motion from a massive mech walking towards me

I recall a game or two where I was stuck on the first level/walkthorugh because I had no fucking idea what to do at first, I revisited it a week later finding out what I had to do was so fucking obvious, but never failed because it was two hard.

Jet force Gemini, to this day I haven't passed the first level.

The first level of Splinter Cell also had me stumped for a while (took me almost a year to beat that one, thankfully the others went much more smoothly)

I'm sure there's a Megaman level somewhere down the line that I blacked out due to the insanity it caused. Sometimes I wonder that I don't have PTSD from some of those early games, so much harder than most of what kids play today.

Ninja Gaiden Black, never completed the first level on my own if I remember correctly. Always struggled at the boss fight.

Alone in the dark. There was a fire pit, not five minutes into the actual game, and the only way forwards is to jump over it. I couldn't do it, wouldn't work for me. So I contended to watching one of my friends play it, which turned out to be a lot more fun, and when he was leaving I let him have the game. The day before his birthday even, what luck.
