Hello all!

I was having a conversation just today with an esteemed colleague of mine and we got into discussing the EQ1 epics. I could really only remember how awful the Paladin and Mage weapons were to get...but I'm fuzzy on the rest.

So, which ones were the easiest/hardest to get? Can you even remember?

Thanks!

Cleric weapon is a dog to get. 5 crystals (1% drop rate) off dragons with a zone wide aggro (or it seemed like it) that dispel all spell effects as they attack.

I think the worst is the Ranger weapon; the Tears of Tunare had a 1 MONTH camp time.

The only direct experience I had was with the Mage and Cleric. The Cleric one seemed easier to get, just because everyone recognized it as the most useful one in the game, and keeping the Clerics happy kept guilds together.

The Mage one, however, was just hellish. You had to kill three unpopular monsters in incredibly hard zones (that guy in Plane of Hate, that giant seahorse thing in that underwater zone, and the guy on the seventh island in the Plane of Sky). And the best part is assuming you could convince your buddies to run through all three zones despite the fact everyone ignored your insane DPS and bugged you for mana sticks every raid, the items you needed from those three monsters weren't guaranteed drop, and they were all on stupid long respawn timers.

Not to mention you had to hang out in Western Karana, one of the biggest zones in the original game, and camp a rare-spawn pegasus, which I think the Rangers needed for their quest, too. (True story: Rangers could track the goddamn thing, whereas Mages couldn't. Enjoy your two weeks in a zone 30 levels under you!) Luckily, the second time I leveled a Mage up to 60 - I like Mages; wanna fight about it? - the pet you could summon off the weapon wasn't as good as the 60-plus pets, so I was only missing out on 200 mana from the actual weapon.

A pox upon whoever designed that quest. A pox.

I hear the Paladin one was rough, too.

I remember starting the mage epic quest when I was 40. Yeah, I was rad. Sadly, though, by the time I was high enough to start the rest of it the game started to suck (Luclin) and nobody was super-interested in the epic quests anymore.

Also, the fact that better weapons existed for some of the classes at the time was pretty lame.

I never played Everquest, but I know people who nearly snapped trying to farm <1% droprate items off <1% spawn creatures. (that might be a hyperbole, but damn if a ~.0001 didn't sound like convincing as a reason to quit playing that game)

Doesn't sound like a hyperbole. As Joe says, probably the Holy Water Sprinkler is the only one worth getting. And that takes a guild.

I remember the warrior epic(s) not really being all that hard. I think it looked like dual weapons (one red and one blue). The reason I ask is because i'm wondering if the EQ2 epics are just as hard. It doesn't seem like it from what I've seen, which is good.
