Never was much interested in EQ, but this looks pretty kewl.

I'll add it to the long list of games I want to try but don't have the time to check out :(

I was all set to start bashing it, but this does actually sound like a sensible implementation. Should be interesting to see how well the actual game ends up working, but for now I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm sure that I'll be significantly less optimistic after a thousand plots of land with FUCK spelled out in big letters.

I do have a serious question though: For how long is your claim staked? Unless Everquest Next takes over your computer and chains the user to the chair, players will drift away over time. If there isn't some sort of automatic reclamation in place, eventually you'll have a continent with 10,000 claims, only a tenth of which are actually in use. I think the biggest threat to this game is it feeling like a ghost town after a month or two due to players moving on to other games in too short of order.

I wasn't interested until I saw the video showcasing the tools, which was published here a few weeks back.

I'm listening now, but I'm not going to pay for earlier access.

I asked these questions in an interview I hope to post in full in the next few days, but they have a reporting system in place to remove inappropriate content and if content doesn't meet their removal standards, there will be an option to make other player content that you find objectionable invisible to you. As far claimed land goes, every claim comes with an upkeep requirement, which will release the land to the public if not met. But don't worry, these upkeeps are not microtransactions and are fulfilled through in-game resources.

Pro's - Customizable MMO world

Con"s - It sounds suspiciously like bolting Minecraft onto an MMO. The dangers or potential of microtranasaction overkill seem imense.

It is going to be free-to-play, so if you have don't have interest in pre-ordering EQ Next or seeing the process unfold for yourself (because you have an interest in game design or something), I would wait.

They claim their main revenue model plan will be a player to player marketplace called Player Studio, where players can sell templates of their creations to others players for real money. Seller gets cut a check, and SOE takes a marketplace cut.

Competing for space, eh? I wonder if we can murder our neighbors and take their land to get more land of our own? Ah, but this isn't Day Z or anything like that.

As a fan of the original EverQuest games, I think this game looks just odd enough to make me want to try it really badly to see what it's like. I enjoy sampling MMORPGs.

I still log into PlanetSide2 time to time. The Players Studio works. I have bought a few things that were WAY better then what the actual devs make. So I would not worry about the Player Studio if you are unaware of what it is.

The game itself sounds neat. Not sure I will pick it up as I am not very good at bringing my imagination to vision. :)

Man this actually sounds interesting, it's like what I wished Minecraft could've been.
Building up a world (or a small part of it at least) just sounds like so much fun.
I really want to try this out.

Huh, the character models sort of remind me of Fable (specifically Fable 3).

I've never been able to get too into the hugely grind centric Minecraft style games. Mindlessly mine 500 of this, to craft this pickaxe, so you can mine 500 of this, to get another pickaxe. Rinse and repeat until the end of time. I know that repeating the same task over and over is the cornerstone of all MMOs so maybe they are onto something.
