Evony never actually promises that there is/isn't a woman thrusting her chest out in the game.

Not in some of the ads, but it's hard to interpret "rescue me now, my lord" as anything else. And the ads that are nothing but boobs and "click here" (with Evony in microprint in the corner) also seem pretty misleading.

And even if they did, who would adjudicate on something that fills the entire web?
And even if they found someone, how would they stop the illegal sites ("probably" (haha) half the web)?

That's a problem, of course. Which is why I said that local laws don't really apply to the Internet.

Actually, no. That's quite funny though (the obvious response being "one would hope so!").

See, it's all in the interpretation. The same "interpretation" that Uwe Boll, Michael Atkinson, Keith Vaz and Jack Thompson use to such great effect.

I joined Evony in the end phases of their beta testing. Just before they changed the name from Civony, and whilst i was playing i REALLY enjoyed the game, At the time the majority of players (there seemed to be as many women as men) were adults who were playing the game whilst at work (me whilst procrastinating) And I made some very good in-game friendships, much more so than any other site of its kind.
Then they started making dozens of new servers and not looking after their current ones. Changed rules which ruined game play...and set a competition for all the female players to send in photos of themsevles looking "regal" and they would be put on the new Evony ads...I have to say they first few pics looked reasonably likely to be from actual players, and shortly after i left A, because my laptop died and B, when i got a new one i couldn't be assed to continue with the worsening gameplay. The new ads are definitly not from the female players.

So if you're thinking about joining Evony don't, you'll be interested to begin with, then you'll hate it.

And for the record, i laughed my ass of at the new adverts.

How many guys download the game expecting Quest for the Tits and uninstall as soon as they see it's Quest for Adjusting Ye Olde Medieval Tax Rates?

The latest reason why I really, I mean REALLY have to stop drinking coffee when I'm reading through threads. My poor monitor has about 12 different dried liquids crammed into the edges of the screen now that no paper towel can reach.

I loved the way the adds slowly got more revealing

they started off like, a woman in a corset, not much skin showing, very mature, and then it slowly degraded from there

going past the woman in the 21st century blouse...yeah REAAAL medieval

evony has found out the secret that all should know (which doesnt make it much of a secret) that sex sells, even if its false marketing sex...i wonder why people dont complain...get the f-ers to change it to " Evony, you'll spend numerous hours looking at a screen that barly moves and has no action in it what so ever."...kind of a lengthy ad but still

Wow. That's just a supreme example of zero-content-ness -- even the whole "33% Less Fat" thing sounds impressive until you think about what it actually means.

At least Evony doesn't contain nuts. Probably.

I have, in fact, seen Evony ads that showed gameplay screenshots instead of the less tasteful ad campaign. They're just as flashy and annoying as other free-to-play game adverts, so it works just as well.

I've seen a few of these too. For a while. Then they were pretty much all replaced by excessive boobage. I sensed the desperation when they started using stock photos of supermodels and (maybe?) porn stars for their ads. I'm with Seamus on this one; it's a sad state of affairs, to be sure.

My roommates actually play this game, and I know one actually enjoys it. Apparently it's like a cross between FarmVille and Civilization. Well, both of those games seem pretty dry and tedious to me, but apparently Evony is actually worth playing if you have a taste for it.

Is it just me or has Evony finally changed their ads. I haven't seen one in a while. Instead I have seen 2 different ads that feature castles and actually game content. Could it be that they finally listened to the hundreds of gamers?

Everyone does it, I'm just surprised it actually works. People may enjoy looking at women, but who stays around for a tedious medieval town construction simulation after that?

First of all, I enjoyed Evony for a time. Then my laptop died, and my account got butchered while I was away lol. Anyway, I'm disappointed you didn't play the game, cause you said a few things in that article that just aren't true. Also, I got a good laugh from their marketing strategy. I saw the ads when it was just a typical ad for these games. When I came back they were like that. I just found it hilarious, cause those are photos of women who sent there pictures in to be voted "queen" of Evony. I don't think they read the fine print. Also, the community seemed pretty stable, it's obvious from the start that you won't see boob. There weren't any griefers or anything that I encountered. But I rarely left my in-guild chat...

Funny thing is, if a game tries to sell using sex, it's pretty much a guarantee that I'll hate it.

So I don't buy them. If you put boobs on the box, I'm not touching it.

I think the bottom line is that it's a rubbish game anyway. Not that I've played it, you understand. But by al accounts, it's just a weak Civilization knock-off with Farmville bits.

Anybody who clicks on those ads deserves to get a virus. It's also run by Chinese WoW gold-farmers, or so I heard. Really the dregs of the internet.
If you're really at the point where you're bored enough to give Evony a try, you need help. It isn't really a question of sexism. It's just sad.
