ScrewAttack's Worst EVER - Zelda Game

All Zelda games are good, right? There could never be a WORST one! Evidently that's not the case. What's your worst Zelda game ever? Let us know in the comments!

The first dude's argument against Skyward Sword just sounded like he was talking about Ocarina of Time to me. You spend so much of that game in the same giant field just kinda getting from dungeon to dungeon. I'm not saying I disagree with him, just that I feel like that argument he made wasn't exclusive to Skyward Sword.

For me the worst Zelda game I've ever played was Phantom Hourglass. Even ignoring the 100% touchscreen controls (and required use of microphone in some spots. I actually just had to stop playing at one point because I couldn't scream into the mic on the bus) the game just wasn't all that good.

The story or characters weren't that interesting, and constantly going back to the hourglass temple or whatever it was called each and every time just because this super annoying chore what with the time limit, unkillable enemies and...yeah, it was just a nightmare.

My worst played Zelda is easily Wind Waker. I thought the art style was cool, and the actual storyline was one of the most overall enjoyable in the entire series (which isn't saying much given how much story Zeldas traditionally have but still..). I thought the actual game design, however, was very poor. Not enough dungeons or interesting stuff to do. A vast open world that was mindnumbingly boring to explore, assuming you could even really explore it at all given that so much of it was just open water. And the whole triforce piece hunt. Just Ugh.

Hmmm, for me that's a tough one. I couldn't be asked to even finish the first dungeon of Skyward Sword, but I hated the touchscreen controls in Phantom Hourglass, but I also managed to actually finish Phantom Hourglass.
I was also not particularly fond of Link's Awakening either.

I agreed with the first two guys completely - Skyward Sword is the worst game and as a franchise it is progressively getting more redundant but only because the devs are listening to the "fans" who say Zelda needs to be more like The Elder Scroll and to also lose the elements that make it a Zelda game in favour of more modern gaming elements.

Skyward Sword lost so much of what made a Zelda game I can't even consider it a Zelda game, if fact to me, it's about as much a Zelda game as the Phillips titles. I even consider Twilight Princess a Zelda game, albeit an atrocious Zelda title but still kept enough elements to stay a Zelda title.

Once Zelda has voice acting and non-linear story telling I reckon that's when the franchise is officially dead though.

But the stoned off his face guy at the end? No I couldn't follow him let alone agree with the little bits I could follow and The Wind Waker is amazing.

I am with the the Spirit Tracks/Phantom hourglass camp. These games aren't just bad Zelda games, they are bad games period. The touchscreen controls are beyond awful, as is the train mechanic in spirit tracks. Give me d-pad controls and a proper overworld map, not these garbage game mechanics.

Easy, the original Four Swords game on the Link to the Past GBA remake. It's the bare minimum of what a Zelda game is, a few Links fighting monsters, collecting rupees, solving simple puzzles in dull environments. The story is literally Vaati is bad and kidnapped Zelda, go beat him up. I don't mind a simple Zelda story, but there were no neat characters to meet along the way, no well designed environments. It did nothing for the series while every other entry did something new and interesting in some way.

I know it was made to only be a multiplayer add on, but the fact that it is canon and has a spot in the timeline, I consider it a true Zelda game, and a lame one at that. I genuinely enjoy every other game in the series, Four Swords? Nope.

For me, Skyward Sword is the only answer. All other Zeldas have been on the spectrum of OK to great. SS took away all the freedom of exploration, and left you with just another modern corridor simulator. To make things worse, they made sure you didn't get lost in your corridor by adding the dowsing abilities (which they always forced you to use at least once each search session, at the penalty of being annoyed to hell), and giving you the worst sidekick for stating the obvious. The game was so paranoid that you'd get lost in its corridors, that it gave you FMVs of parts of the game being completed for you, so that you could see what you needed to do if you were lost.

After that, the DS Zeldas were lackluster, but I still enjoyed Phantom Hourglass a bit. Too simple in many cases, but I liked the experimentation with the new controls. Even the Hourglass dungeon was cool with me, because every time you went back, you earned yourself a new shortcut to get to the bottom faster. It made speedrunning interesting.

I never minded the oceans in Wind Waker. And as far as the comment from the video about why the Zora's were not thriving; Zoras are river creatures, ie they live in fresh water. How much of that did you see in the ocean?

I played through Skyward Sword a few months ago for a second time. The only thing that I found annoying about it was the feeling that you spent most of the game getting distracted from your real goal.

But in my opinion, the worst Legend of Zelda game was Oracle of Seasons. Most of the bosses were lifted directly from the first Legend of Zelda. And the game link system really didn't seem to add much to the game.

Using fish-on-bird sexy times to argue Wind Waker is the worst, huh? Whatever, I'm just glad he didn't use the art style as a reason.

The worst Zelda game to me would probably be the Ocarina of Time. It was good for its era but I've seen it on the #1 spot so many times I just have to raise my hand and object. Ocarina of Time is the bare minimum of what Zelda games are or have become depending on your perspective. It has since been surpassed by its predecessors on a technical, narrative, and graphical level.

Not counting the CDi "Zelda games", I would have to say Spirit Tracks. It's not a bad game, it's just bad for a TLoZ game. Followed closely by Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword.
