Extreme Snowboarding - In and Out of Game

This week Tom discovers that videogame snowboarding can provide the confidence, if not the skills, necessary to go real snowboarding.

It's interesting, but you've also highlighted the flipside to sports games. People jump in with no idea what they're getting themselves into, then hurt themselves. Much to the annoyance of those who have to scrape them up.

So, will you be trying it again once healed?

Yeah, I've also learnt that it's hard to transfer skills from a video game into real life, especially in snowboarding. However, I'd like to think that the reason I picked it up just that little faster than normal was due to my extensive hours on SSX.

I hope you give it another go Tom, it's a great past time.

That's funny because I kind of thought SSX would be least helpful of all snowboarding games, given how exaggerated everything is. But I guess since the body movements of your character are all accurate it still helps.

Perhaps because everything is so exaggerated, it helps you identify the movements better. I can't be sure. Got to be better than snowboard kids though, you'd think.
Still can't pull off those monster tricks though, what a disappointment I am.

What I'd like to know is, if you get good at real-life snowboarding, does "It's Tricky" blast through the air at random intervals? 'Cause if not, man, what a gyp.

I always thought that playing tony hawks would make me better at skating. Then I realized its impossible to ollie onto a house, then grind for a mile, making more momentum by switching your tricks.

Yes. It does. It's TOTALLY worth the effort.
