So, I'm an avid rpg player, I really enjoy them, and YES, I used to Play God, but to most people that havent played it, World of warcraft.
When I first got Fable, I Loved it. I loved the idea of an evil villian or a valiant hero parading through town in a drunken stupor or a Heroic..erm walk. And watching everyone cheer and clap, or cry and run away :p. When I heard about the release of Fable II I almost screamed. YES! THEY'RE MAKING ANOTHER ONE! And the new setting, the 1700's, really caught me by surprise. Guns?Cannons?DRAGONS? (Maybe not Dragons) And now...CHILDREN!!?!?
Needless to say, I was blown away. Then, finally, it came out....and I was broke.
But I have the money now, and I'm starting to have second thoughts. After hearing about Yahtzee's review, I pondered the thought of a purchase. I was a big fan of the first game, I love Peter Molyneaux's games, Black and White was a big fave too, but I'm hearing about bugs and the combat system sucking?

I figured i'd hear an opinion from the gaming community first, so I ask you.

Did you enjoy Fable 2?

The short answer is no. I was personally able to beat the game (and do every side quest) in about 18 hours. Not worth the money to me. The game does not have much replay value either, even compared to the first. It was a good game, yes, but it feels like more of fable one with just a couple upgrades. The game itself was great and had some great ideas, but no real depth.

If you absolutely had to play it, I'd recommend renting it. I haven't played it for a couple weeks now and was able to beat in less that a week.

I can go into more detail if you like, but I don't have the time now.

If you liked Fable 1 as much as you described, then Fable II is a good purchase for you. I loved Fable 1 with a passion. I thought it was one of the best single player RPGs of all time. Fable II is alot more of that but with improvements. I played Fable II to the end and decided to make 3 new characters, so I believe it also has that replay value that a person who is usually broke needs, like that he doesnt have to buy a new game to get a new experience.

As for Yahtzee, as much as I like his reviews, I can't take what he says too literally and neither should anyone. The man is paid to rip games apart, and that's what he does. I mean he is right on pretty much every point, but he mostly points out the bad, and the bad is only a fraction of most games (there are exceptions to everything though i believe Fable II isnt one of them). Hope this helped, and personally i hope you get Fable II, I love all the Lionhead games (including Black & White), and i think Fable II follows in their tradition of releasing good games, although a tad overhyped (okay, okay, maybe more than a tad...)

For me, a games worth is decided by a couple things:

Is it fun? I will hand it to Fable, I did enjoy myself being evil, and spare a few points of mindless moneymaking jobs, the game was overall a pretty fun experience

Is it challenging (but not impossible)? nooooooooooooo. The game is very easy, in a sense you can never lose, ever. The only thing that happens when you are beaten by an enemy is you get knocked out, get a scar somewhere on your body (which if you are going evil, helps you look more evil). Plus, all I did was focus on my will powers, and I powered to the top level shock spell really quickly, which disposes of almost all enemies on the screen in one move.

Replayability? hmmm, I can honestly say in a year or so I would probably go back. For games that have you choose to play one way or another, there is always the replayability at least one time over.

Is the game long enough to not feel ripped off? This game, in my mind, is criminally short. The ending (not spoiling anything) was a bit anti-climactic to me, and I found that most of my time was spent doing the side quests right before the final quest of the story (because I was prompted that I would be done after this quest). After I finished, I felt no need to go play more and own every building in the game, so I quit. Not worth the full price tag imo is what this comes down to.

Overall, the game is worth something, just not the 65.00 (CDN). It is still riddeled with bugs, the fighting is easy, the movement of your hero is like the guy is on a skating rink at all times. But The game is fun to play. Hope that helped.

I really enjoyed it.

Personally I haven't encountered any bugs & found it totally immersing despite the flaws.

It's not a difficult game, I didn't get knocked out once, but if you like previous Peter Molyneux games & Fable 1 than I dare say you'll enjoy Fable 2.

Any criticisms about load times & lag in the menu system are abolished if you install it to the hard drive with the NXE, and this may also eradicate other bugs which were caused by an inability to read/stre4am data from the DVD quick enough, e.g if you sprinted everywhere around town then some shop keepers would be invisible, suddenly appearing once you stopped as the game loaded them from the DVD.

Apparently there's a game breaking bug if you sprint away from a certain quest giver & leave the area before he's finished talking & giving you the quest, but why would you do this anyway? This is a game with lots of great voice acting & dialogue to be enjoyed & experienced, not a game to be blasted through like a time trial challenge on a beat-em-ep.

I can't really comment much on the combat system sucking as that's subjective to individuals ideas of combat and a clear definition of "sucking".
Granted it's not as deep as Virtua Fighter 5 or as flashy as Ninja Gaiden, but I found the combat ok. It's just like the first game really.

From what you've said I think you'll enjoy it.

I found it incredibly short. I sat down on the saturday after the day of release and had finished the main quest by Sunday morning. I maybe 8 hours on the main quest? Everything was painfully easy and the story was OK. I thought the point of a fucking RPG was to be long, do they have any other role? Screw 'life simulation', I like my life!

Probably going to exchange it next weekend as I've just bought the castle and done the last (and I presume hardest) thing. I'm not really a collector so I've only got the 35/50 gargoyles I stumbled upon and maybe two or three talking doors.

I personally loved Fable and Fable 2, so if you enjoyed the first one I reccomend buying the sequel. I think it had what a lot of Fable fans thought the origional one was missing

I'm really quite disappointed with Fable 2. To me it feels like a cut down version of the first one. It doesn't even really look much better and the awful loading times are back. I'd do yourself a favour and replay the first one again but completely differently doing the opposite and other quests you might have skipped. Better yet get the lost chapters from a bargain bin, if you can get it on PC even better because then you can run it in high definition and not really miss out on anything!

Fable 2 is far superior to Fable 1. If you loved Fable 1, you'll really love Fable 2. There are lots of neat nods and allusions to what happened in Fable 1 in the sequel so if you played most or all of Fable 1, you'll really appreciate that. Fable 2 is set a little further into the future from Fable 1 and in the same game world which is neat. The NPCs are more interesting to talk to this time. I love the "bread crumbs" feature that helps you find your next objective. It really helps, especially in the twisted paths in the dungeon parts. The best part of all is your faithful dog. He finds treasure, helps you fight enemies and can even attract the ladies who find him cute and want to pet him. I like the way that your actions affect the way people treat you and how the story progresses. I also like the jobs you can do for money. It's a nice break from hacking monsters and bad guys to see what loot they drop.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the expressions system. I find it a little hard to pick the expression I really want to use, especially if I'm in a situation where I have to do so quickly. Those Demon Doors don't give you much time to pick the right expression to satisfy them. Sometimes, I end up selecting an expression I didn't mean to and wind up doing something I don't want to do. One time, I accidently punished my dog instead of healing him. Fortunately, I was able to go back into the menu and heal the dog in time to have him still help me finish the fight. I think they should have make the game pause while you are picking expressions. It's not easy, especially once you have unlocked a lot of them. The mechanic of rotating the thumbstick to select different categories of expressions and the expressions within those categories doesn't work very well.

Other than that, the game is excellent. I think that the combat system is just right for an RPG. RPGs were never meant to be combat simulators in the first place, so some kind of complex combat system with combos and lots of buttons to press in order to pull off the right attack would seem out of place in a game like this. For once, the auto aim feature actually works like it should and almost always lets you attack the enemy you want to. I've been playing for quite a while now and have yet to feel the right to blame the aiming feature on any of the deaths I've had.

Speaking of playing for a while, I don't understand why people complain about the game being short. What's the big hurry? There is no reason at all to burn through games like Fable 2 as fast as you can. Take your time, look around, talk to the NPC's, follow the dog around while he sniffs out treasure. It's not a race folks. RPGs are meant to be played at a slower pace. You're supposed to explore the world and find all the hidden little gems, not fast track to the final encounter with the main villian. If you really want to have the "I beat the game first" bragging rights, then that's up to you, but don't complain that the game was too short or lacking in depth if you do. These games have plenty of depth and replayability, but you have to slow down and take your time to experience it all.

Ok, So, After hearing all of this wonderful feedback, and frankly, I'm an impulse consumer, I purchased Fable 2

And Woah

IT's badass. My dog is turning a shade of black. My hero's eyes are bloodshot. Gypsies shriek and run away in the terror of my Hero. a Blunderbuss and a sword is sheathed under the blood-red ranger coat and the bandit shirt.

All in all, this game is incredibly immersive, i love the new breadcrumb line, very good idea, the world is large and heavily populated, and it actually auto aims! Gasp!
I love 1 shotting bandits with an Iron Blunderbuss.
I'd go into major detail but:
a) i just bought this game
b)I'm no where near done with it
c)Lol I want to go play it some more.

Honestly, though, all of this gets kinda old rather quickly. When I first bought it I couldn't stop playing it and was talking it up to everyone. But then I just reached a point where I didn't care anymore. It was like, why am I doing all of this? Just like Yahtzee said in his review - everything is simply done for its own sake and in an extremely linear fashion. And that just doesn't cut it anymore in a landscape now inhabited by the likes of Fallout 3, where so much of the world is interconnected to what you do, which you can decide as you see fit. The graphics of Fable 2 remain impressive and the combat stays fun for the most part, but at about 2/3rds of the way through, you'll start to wonder if you really need to see any more.

This is exactly how I went for me and Black & White. Peter Molyneux makes beautiful, creative games, but they only seem to be engaging for about 10 hours, and then it's time to play something a little less into its own awesomeness and a little more into you having loads of fun.

I liked Fable 2 alot. If you liked the the 1st one you'll like the 2nd.

But, sadly there are a quiet a few problems. The game feels very unfinished and suffered from a bad case of the Hobbe...I mean Gremlins (HA! See what I did?). Its also, as people have said, extremely short.

Plus, the story for the most part is not as good as the first Fables. There are vertually no twists or turns until the very end, the game follows a very linear path. The one thing that saves it for me is the remarkable Stephen Fry. Yes, Stephen Fry is in this game. He plays a Rich, evil, bisexual pirate. If you don't want to at least check this game out after that statement you deserve to be shot. Probley one of my faviourt game characters ever.

That being said...I think Fable II is just a rental. I had it for 2 weeks and then I was pritty much done, and this is after multiple play thoughs. However, I get the impression theres more story to come, judging by the cock slap of an ending and the announcement that Lionhead is having soon. But with all the games come out this is stull just a rental.

I think the game would be worth it if it had a better User Interface which includes a working minimap, removing any sort of interaction with the xbox system clock (like the current way of how you get money from properties), and perhaps a less retarded way to manage all the properties you will end up owning.
Spot on. And I could list about 12 other things they could have done / could do to streamline the experience. But they should've figured all of this out by responding to gamer input after the first Fable. But no, no, Peter Molyneux is apparently too auteur to worry about whether people actually enjoy playing his "vision."

They want to make Fable 3 better in every way? Solution: give it Bethesda Studios. Worked for Fallout. They might need a class or two on how to work whimsy into open-world gaming (Fallout and The Elder Scrolls really are needlessly dark), but otherwise I think it would be the perfect fit.

I really enjoyed this game and despite, having recently bought mass Effect, Fallout 3 and WOTLK on my PC, I still play it. Yes I have alot of time on my hands. It is really really buggy, my wife has disappeared, my dog keeps finding non existent treasure and I float on water when Im attempting to swim but despite of all this Fable 2 was the one reason I got a 360 it was after that I noticed fallout 3 was on it too!

Buy enjoy it

I'm having loads of fun with the game, I understand some parts arent all bug free, but it's a very interesting game.
Not as much interface as I first presumed, but it's about immersion.
