You know, he IS right. I use facebook myself and it is preposterous to think that we just hand over this stuff to a stranger.
Well, technically no. I mean, you could delete everything off your profile, but Facebook itself would still have whatever information you used to sign up.Furburt said:I eternally regret joining Facebook, because there's no way off.
You know I may not like MySpace or Facebook or any of that stuff, but he is my new favorite CEO. I wouldn't trust him for anything, but at least he is honest about it.Sir Kemper said:Ladies and gentlmen of facebook, this is the man your trusting with your personal information.
Please think about that for a while.
There were a few services that could delete all your facebook information, though I believe there have since been precautions against most of the "facebook suicide" exploits.RebellionXXI said:Well, technically no. Yup. Ain't that hard to backup all that data in a separate server. And it ain't just personal accounts, either. There are a lot of companies that use Facebook for easy exposure. 'Tis to laugh.Furburt said:Sadly, that means fuck all. Facebook are notorious for holding your personal info, even if you've deleted it.Matt_LRR said:And with that, so is all my information deleted from facebook.

Well from how I read this article, it was already pure evil in a can. And I wouldn't put complete faith in that Permanent Delete option. Marky Mark Zurkerburg's attitude would lead me to believe he has the right to retain a lot of information.Matt_LRR said:unfortunately, in order to be able to modify the LRR facebook page, I have to keep my account. :\Furburt said:Yes, here they are:Matt_LRR said:granted, but there are processes by which you are able to formally and finally delete your profile.
That said, I can't do that :\

Difficult enough.
In the meantime, I'd just avoid putting anything personal at all up there.
But I'm certainly not inclined to leave everything up that is. Man I wish Facebook was still a social network and photosharing service, and not pure evil in a can.

Hey, as long as some (like a few of my mates are) are not stupid enough to add addresses and telephone numbers, or dare to meet up with people they dont know, who is bothered? If we are stupid enough to trust this site to add these kind of personal details then its our own fault. Granted IP addresses can be tracked, but that can happen on any site including this one. Either way, its up to us to keep ourselves safe...TheDoctor455 said:Yeah... I knew about this sort of bullshit when I signed up... but... its still a good way to keep in touch with friends (met them in real life long before I ever got a facebook account) that live thousands of miles away now.Sir Kemper said:Ladies and gentlmen of facebook, this is the man your trusting with your personal information.

Good thing I never really post that much info on my profile anyway.
I agree, I have a facebook but would never DREAM of putting anything private, personal, or something that could in any way come back to bite me.danpascooch said:If anyone makes a Facebook, they'd be idiots if they expected privacy.
What's an SNS number?
And we can share this story on Facebook evenDirty-Zombie said:EDIT: What I find amusing is that this article is using a private conversation (I assume) to complain about this guy's looseness with people's privacy.
