It is quite amusing to see people advocating the use of the A-word plugin / script and not getting warnings. One or two of those people aren't even part of the Pub Club.

Then we have those people who are part of the Pub Club AND advocating the use of A-word.

Please Escapist restore some sanity! Remember when this site was supposed to be the final bastion for common sense on the internet?

I remember those days.

It is also funny for a site that uses those intrusive video ads that FB is talking about hammering FB for planning to use them.

Just when I was considering joining the Pub Club too. Oh well....

So it's okay to discuss that [perfectly legal Firefox add-on] as long as you state in bold caps BUT IT'S OKAY BECAUSE I WHITELIST THE ESCAPIST, which is fine?

You can talk as much as you like about [doing the B-word] to the advertisements on any and every other website, but as soon as you mention doing that kind of thing on The Escapist, THEN it's very very naughty and you have to be punished?

How... odd.
Exactly. You're absolutely right.

The Escapist doesn't seem to give a shit what people block or don't block on other websites, which is understandable I guess.

What annoys me though, is how people who've purchased Publisher's Club premium memberships here, are allowed to say they use [REDACTED] as much as they like, and they don't need to specify that they whitelist The Escapist (because they don't NEED to whitelist The Escapist, since they see no ads).

This creates the problem of Publisher's Club members being moderated differently to normal members, which I don't agree with at all.

Also, the Code of Conduct is written with the blanket statements:
"Ad Blockers - Do not link to, advocate, or admit to using ad blockers."
"Discussion of ad blockers, pedophilia, illegal acts, and pornography is never allowed."

It doesn't say anything about Publisher's Club members and/or people who whitelist, being exempt from that rule.

There are few things on the internet I loathe more than video ads that play automatically. You've got 17 tabs open in Firefox, you're browsing the web like a maestro, and suddenly, BOOM, music starts playing and some guy starts talking about cheaper car insurance or erectile dysfunction or fixed-rate home loans, and after you've recovered from the heart-jarring startle you get to scroll through page after page, scrambling to find the offending ad so you can shut it up - all because some metrics-calculating bozo managed to convince the world that that's brand engagement, baby!
Funny, considering you work for a website that does exactly that!
