Fallout 3 is one of those games you don't find very often. This game has decent shooting (and V.A.T.S) a lot of rpg elements (the game is mostly an rpg.) and some great dark humor.
STORY:
This game does not have a great main story by any means. (minor spoiler) it consists of searching for your dad and finding out he isn?t were you look the first several times. It was some thing along the lines of ?Your princess is at a different castle? (End spoiler) But the true brilliance in story comes from the side quests that are diverse and often times very peculiar. Also you may find notes in computers you hack that the person you got a quest from isn?t as much of a saint as you made him/her out to be.
SETTING:
Fallout 3 is set in the year 2277, 200 years after the Nuclear war between the U.S and CHINA. But it is on a timeline that broke away from the one we are living in during the 50?s. Culture developed differently. The music and trends of the fifties lasted. They only had rudimentary computers but they had laser guns and hi-tech androids and robots. Just picture how people in the fifties thought the future would look like then drop a Nuke on it.
GAME PLAY:
In fallout 3 you equip weapons, change armor and eat food with your Pip Boy 3000. You carry the pip boy on your wrist and upper arm. When you get shot it takes away from your total health and damages you?re the limb it hits, so if you get hit my a rocket launcher in the leg your leg will be crippled. When shooting in fallout 3 you can access V.A.T.S which freezes everything. Then in vats you fire at the any part of the body you wish. But you only can spend a certain amount of ?Action Points.? When you run out you have to fire manually. You fight a large variety of creatures from irradiated roaches to Behemoth Super mutants.
SOUND/GRAPHICS:
The graphics are pretty good. There is a nice amount of detail in the environments. The only issue I have with this game?s graphics is that everyone is the same height and all men?s bodies are the same and all women?s bodies are the same. The music in this game is quite nice. All the songs are from the first half of the 20th Century. The explosions are loud and the guns sound like guns; that is about all I could ask for.
As I said this is amazing game and I can?t wait until New Vegas.
