Fallout 3 and the Freezing Sickness

Howdy fellow gamers. I was wondering if anyone else has been having the problem I have with Fallout 3 for the PS3.

The game, like other Bethesda games before it, likes to freeze up on me every time I play. If I play for more than two hours at a time I run the risk of encountering a freeze. The game usually warns me it's going to freeze by starting to chug, sometimes so much so that it takes me literally ten minutes to walk ten paces. I take this as a sign to quickly save my game, because the inevitable freeze is coming soon.

Has anyone else encountered this? The disc for the game is fine; no scratches or fingerprints. Is it just the PS3 version that does this, or do the DLCs bring too much extra strain to the game (this only happened occasionally before I got the DLCs, but now it happens every time I play), or is this just Bethesda keeping up with their track record of glitchy games?

Feedback is appreciated, thanks.

careful not to over do it. it broke my ps3. had to wait over a month to get the game back. 3 weeks for a rephrased ps3.
tack it slow and stop playing when it chokes like a xbox. unlike a pc you can't lower the graphics if u can try.

Have had similair problems with thr xbox version, so the point i had to delete an entire profile because it was freezing so much (almost had the last behemoth as well :*( ) and a friend who has almost had a fit due to the fact that it constantly froze right towards the end during the final assualt of the main game.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm gonna risk playing it until the end (I only have Point Lookout left to do), then I'm gonna throw Fallout into a closet and leave it there for awhile.

Hopefully by Fallout addiction doesn't brick my PS3, heh. *crosses fingers*

Fallout has frozen on me more times than there has been Rocky films...But you just soldier on and save at regulare intervals.

Especially when blowing up a giant amount of cars at the same time...The PS3 no likey that.

good luck from now on i think it safer if don't buy open world rpgs for our consoles. a pc can handle the punishment

Yeah, I've had that happen a lot. It caused my file to corrupt the first time. Now I have to crash my PS3 after about an hour of playing it. Like other people have said just deal with it and let it calm down.

Really? I've blown up every car on the bridge into The Pitt and had no lag whatsoever. It's kinda weird because I can get lag from nothing and then do things like that have none.

I had this problem on my 360 copy, I haven't played my PS3 copy enough to know if it's going to freeze constantly or not.

If your heating ever breaks, throw Fallout 3 in the 360 and play for a bit, your room will be toasty.

I find that if it happens - touch nothing on the dualshock and it corrects and is fine. I'm yet to play the DLC and now I'm reluctant to risk it. Is it really worth it?
A bricked PS3. I don't think so. but is it worth the risk?

I have heard of this happening from my friends, but the only time my 360 copy got anywhere close to freezing on me was when it glitched up near the beginning (it wouldn't let me go out of VATS). It seems to be the copy itself, for some strange reason.

Zing.

But I never had heat problems with my-- I'll save it for a different thread.

OT: Well, yeah. I'd say risk some continued play. That, however, is only because I'm a fallout junkie.

It's worth the risk for me, seeing as how Fallout 3 is my favorite game (until something better comes along, that is), and as how I don't think the risk of bricking is very big.

However; if you're not as obsessed with Fallout as I am (487 hours and counting, woo!), and freezing issues cause you to spit acid at your T.V., then it might be a better idea to pick up the game of the year edition instead of downloading the DLCs.

487!
... Just wow.

Do you think the GOTY edition would really make any difference over the DLC? Considering it's a similar price to buy it all I'm up for it.

487!

well, I dunno about the 360, those issues are probably system related...but for the ps3 version, I'd imagine it has something to do with the fact that the original DLC was for the 360, and no other system, and was ported after.
