Fallout 3 Companions!

I only ever used them as packhorses, to be honest. They could carry more stuff than I could alone.

I actually never thought to use companions for that purpose. It's an awesome idea.

Why bother to have any? It seems like its a BIG waste of time because unless you have the PC version of the game. They are just cannon fodder, for instance I was walking through Minefield with Dogmeat and as I am trying to disable the mines; the damn dog runs to attack a nearby raider and gets us both killed in the chain reaction.

Clearly you've never had Fawkes as your companion if you think all companions are cannon fodder.

I've been wondering about that for a while, how do you deal with the preacher? I just sent the Wastelander into the alley to die, but I gather that isn't the right way.

get a sniper rifle, save before going into the alleyway, use a stealth-boy, sneak to a area somewhat far away from him, but with him still in sight, then make a new save, snipe him, this may take a few tries.

What's the benefit? I mean, what do you get out of it, as opposed to sending the Wastelander in? You don't even lose karma for sending him in.

Fawkes and Charon are cool,but I just use my companions as Pack Mules.Dogmeat always seems to die.

Charon +Hockeymask+ Shiskebahb = Jason Vorhees. So awesome. Kinda cool how they get unlimited ammo as long as they have that type. Unless you think it's clever to hand over a fatboy in the subway. lolz Oh the memories.

I dont think my playstyle compliments any of the companions (basically, stealth sniper)

The only companion I've had that was any good was Liberty Prime.

Fawkes. He just doesn't die and kills everything. I don't even have to shoot when he's around.
