Fallout 3 help! She ran off with my stuff!

Hey guys, I have a fallout 3 games question and fluff question

Games question: SPOILER Alright I just got to the part after I blow up the enclave super secret base. And waiting outside for me like a little puppy was....Fawkes. Now don't get me wrong, Fawkes is a cool guy but this is my problem. I went in with Paladin star cross, and she was holding onto some of my loot that I would store after the mission, but I don't know if she died, is stuck in vault 87 or what? Do I have a way to get my stuff back? Is she gone forever?

Here's the fluff question. Now when I was blasting uglies in vault 87 I saw the FEV chambers, and so, I checked the little terminals by them, which said FEV tanks are depleted. Now it's my understanding, since super mutants can't have super mutant babies, they have to drag some sucker to get infected. but How can they if they're FEV is used up? Do they have more? Are thy smart enough to make more?

Did you check the Citadel? Sometimes the characters load back to their home bases.

The reason you see them all over the Capital Wasteland is because they're searching for more.

Another thing you could do is...
I think there's a mod called something like "companion radios" or something, that lets you teleport a companion close to you... though of course... you'd have to have given Cross a walkie-talkie first... oh well.

For my two cents on it, I think the tanks the terminals refer to are only the sample tanks for exposing people in the chambers to the FEV. My guess is that deeper in Vault 87 there are still larger storage tanks full of the stuff.

I believe all companions (aside from Fwakes) return to the place you originally found them after being captured by the Enclave. So Paladin Cross should be wandering around inside the citadel. If not, you could try spawning her via console commands if you have the PC version.

Those probably weren't the only FEV chambers inside the Vault. But it does seem like the Super Mutants are running out of FEV, hence why they are looking for "green goo" in the DC ruins. They need to get more FEV to make more Super Mutants.

This is true. Also, apparently they continuously grow with age, so the larger they are the older they are making Behemoths likely from the first batch. (According to the Wiki) Which I have read so much it's kind of depressing.

Actually, the original Fallout explains why they can't reproduce. The FEV makes them sterile.

I'd say there's an area of Vault 87 that you can't get into that contains more of the FEV. With that, they switch/refill the tanks as and when needed. It may make some degree of sense to keep them constantly topped up, but hey, it's already been said that this strain of the FEV wasn't fine tuned for intelligence.
