Fallout 3 mod recommendations?

A while back, I played through a bit of Skyrim, and I regained an appreciation for Bethesda open world rpgs. I was thinking of getting Fallout 3 next Steam sale, and I was wondering about some mod recommendations. As for what I'm looking for in particular, I mostly stick to quest mods (Falskaar and the like), immersion mods (like the mounted companions mod), and gameplay enhancements (keeping with the Skyrim examples, dual wield parrying, for example).

I'm not opposed to visual updates, but I would rather not unless they can maintain 1080p 60 on something slightly stronger than a 980 (I'm saving for a 1060 to replace my currently-dying AMD Radeon HD 7850). On top of that, as you can probably guess, I don't want immersion breakers (like this Samus Aran Power Suit I saw in a video).

Can anyone give me any recommendations?

Not a mod, but I always really enjoyed doing the glitch in Broken Steel to get the unbreakable sniper rifle + ammo out of the VR training.

i made a couple of immersion mods back in the day

1. allow power armour to carry its own weight http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/16552/?

2. "make ghoul reavers and albino scorpions have half HP" because bethesda's attempt to make them dangerous made them into literal bullet sponges: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/16553/?

otherwise i would recommend the following:
the DC interiors mod as it opens up a lot of the closed off buildings in the wasteland:

one of the best modded quests is mothership zeta crew, its one of the best put together quests, a full new faction that takes advantage of the mothership zeta dlc. its amazing how much work went into it

I highly recommend FOOK2 and Marts Mutant Mod. Combined the mods refine features and add a ton of new armors, weapons, and enemies. The added content stays faithful to the source material and should not break emerging. They are also highly customizable so you can usually remove features that you feel don't fit (for instance in MMM I recall that by default ghouls have a chance to reanimate unless they are killed by blowing up their head, it was very annoying and decided to turn this off).

I cannot play FO3 without these mods.

You Should get both fallout 3 and New Vegas because of Tale of Two Wastelands which allows you to play Fallout 3 in side of New Vegas and travel between the two games. FYI Fallout 3 does not run well on newer systems.

Funny, I recently made a very similar topic.

I really recommend the Ultimate Patch, Fallout Script Extender and a save system overhaul to majorly improve stability.

Ultimate Patch:
Script Extender:
Savegame overhaul:

I got so fed up with the low HP values of weapons in the game that I used the console to give me those VR items.
There is too little to be able to keep the items in good condition, unlike New Vegas.
