(some cursing in the videos if anyone is watching them at work)
didn't see a topic yet..but I figured with the hype this game is getting, everyone would want to see these.
Personally, fallout 3 bored me to tears most of the game (due to it being bethesda), but I'm honestly VERY interested in this game, short of the typical bethesda bugginess, this is looking to be alot more interesting and I might even get it week 1.
this change anyones minds? anything you see interesting? anything missing that you want to see?
*edit* apparently these were originally shown at their E3 showcase, just saw they were put up today on youtube, my bad, delete if you want mods.
Whilst I understand that they are going to put the gunplay front and centre because explosions are cool and stuff. I'd like to see a bit of stealth as that's my favourite way to play. Why fight a man when you can put a mine down his trousers and hide round the corner giggling.
They've also put emphasis on the Power Armour, given my stealth preference I hope they don't make it required to often a la Batmobile in Knight. If they do it's also going to mess with character development as I won't typically pick the stats that allow for Power Armour use so they'll either have to nerf requirements for using or nerf the stats system, neither of which appeals.

Yeah, this is my concern too. I mostly played through Fallout 3 and New Vegas with a combination of Sneak, Small Guns and Explosives for a mine laying sneaky sniper. The emphasis on Power Armour is making me hope that we can customise it to stealth variants, something resembling the improved Stealth Suit from New Vegas.
While the action looks a lot better it does remind me of how the videos for the combat of Skyrim made it look better and in the end it was still a bag of dicks.
They just need to get some info on what makes a satisfying shooter by emailing their co-workers at id and Machine Games.
It might be a bit hard to show exploration without revealing too much. Then again there was that Pre-Fallout 3 video where they go from Megaton to Super Duper Mart then to Tenpenny Tower, so maybe something like that will appear. Also I'm hoping that since Boston has a few Lovecratian sites in real life they might show up in FO4.
Holy Crap! You're telling me that wasn't just Fallout New Vegas with a texture mod and weapon skins?!
Pretty sure I even have the mod that lets you fly around in a gunship and just blow stuff up. And they don't have the Warhammer 40k weapon mods or MLP reskins, so I think I'm winning at this point.
Seriously though. I get that this game is going to be successful, but I'm not seeing why anyone should buy it launch week, let alone pre-order.
We all know its gonna be filled with bugs and glitches. They always are. And there will be the inevitable complaints that its a great big open map and not a whole lot to do and more than a few people saying this is just a remake of Falout 3 but with a new Sims minigame.
But I do plan on buying it 6 months after launch when its like $5 in the bargain bin with a HD remake of New Vegas, so what do I know...
I always like re-watching this footage, it just makes me excited. Of course, I'm one of the more optimistic fans who crapped themselves at the sight of the Pipboy Edition. (Yes, I am somewhat of a sucker, that is what the badge says.)
Yet, the worst part is that these videos can deceive the viewer.
After all, in a video format, games always look worse because it has to compress things, and well, it ain't the game. So I think everyone judging Fallout 4 based on these graphics will hopefully be wrong.
Of course there is the chance it can look like that, but I have no problem with that.
Overall, I'm happy with what I see.
I'm sure the world will be better than previous entries, and I love the new additional features. BUT, my biggest worry is the story, plot, and player character. I've always believed that the story could be more better, especially with Fallout 3 and New Vegas (A little less for 3).
The more focused worry is that they set you up as a 30 to 40-ish husband/wife with a child. I don't want to have a set life, I want to be more of a 20-ish man, with a somewhat blank slate, to make it feel more personal. Yet I did hear that you are the ...
"sole survivor" of the Vault. At least that is what Todd Howard said in the conference. So I ... Hate to say this, but I hope the wife and child are dead, to add a bit of emotion, and to cut off ties.
Plus it won't be the awful, "search for your wife and child" story. :/
So I kinda hope it will focus more on the player character, and their survival story.
AND that they won't pull off the bullshit of "search for your ..." like in 3 [sub]Edit[/sub] AND New Vegas with the chip and asshat to added a bit of lead to your Grey matter.
Yet, my feelings might change when they post more stuff, so yeah.
Still, I'm excited.
My overall thoughts are the same to be honest. I can see the voiced character either panning out brilliantly or going down in a blaze of hatred. My hopes are for the former obviously, but I will miss the blank slate character where I can roleplay them to be whatever it is I want.
The game world looks beautiful, I'll give it that. I like that they're making an effort to make the difference between Power Armour and normal armour feel meaningful.
That being said, Laser Musket is a dumb name for a weapon.
Personally I don't really like the idea of "Press X to Perform Critical", but in general the gunplay looks a bit more interesting than the previous games, especially as Im someone who didn't really use VATS that much.
Why not just wait for the Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC included? That is what I am doing this time around.
What I am hopeful for is that Bethesda's storytelling got better in Skyrim and hopefully that carries on further with this title. The fact that they even attempted to give the wanderer a personality in the trailers makes me a little hopeful that they have learned a couple things. I doubt the story is going to be some sweepingly great narrative, but I am just hoping it doesn't include "Hey random stranger that just wandered into our town, we get enough trouble around here so I am keeping my eye on you! While you are here can you go try to diffuse the atomic bomb in the middle of our city despite you never having proven yourself capable in any way?"
The game does look promising but Bethesda's track record makes me not care for buying it right out the gate. I have a backlog that is too big as it is. I am gonna be waiting for the GOTY edition with all the bells and whistles before I buy.

Well this time the Power armor seems to be an actual power armor on top of your regular armor, instead of just a powerfull type of armor. This makes me think that the power armor is more of a timed ability. In one scene you can see that the protagonist puts an energy cell in the power armor before entering it. This makes me think that the power armor will be very powerfull and most likely not require some special stats to wear them, while only working with batteries with limited power, so that you can only use it a short amount of time before the battery runs out.
I think it will most likely be a way to take on some incredibly powerfull enemy camps and stuff like that.
I have to say that the game looks quite amazing. The combat is just as a I remember... but even better. What I like about this Fallout is the fact that your character actually talks, other than just choosing dialogue and getting an immediate response. I'm very much looking forward to this game. But first I have to get New Vegas out of the way
Not sure what to think about how they are handling Power Armor this time around. Batteries for power armor...can't pack it up for your inventory. Is it being treated more of as a powerup this time around or something? Particularly as it seems to be treated as separately from armor-protagonist is seen getting into the armor while wearing an armored vault suit.
Not looking forward to the dialogue wheel. At all. Same with the voiced protagonist. And having to play as the mother/father of the child (if that's true). That seems like it would rather severely streamline the RP elements in a way I really wouldn't enjoy.
The weapon variety in this one seems to be ludicrous. There are lots of interesting improvised weapons being showcased, which is just dandy. These stupid modern shooters seem to be taking out variety and adding boring weapons. Remember Bioshock Infinite? How they took out the crossbow, chemical thrower, unique ammunitions and fun? Remember when you were sad that Fallout;NV didn't have the rock-it-launcher? It seems to be back with a vengeance in Fallout 4 with all the weapon building. It's endless junk launching carnage!
Day 1 buy! Maybe I'll wait just a smidgen to see if there are any catastrophic bugs on the level of Assassin's Creed Unplayable-ity, but then I might not.
Edit: I never noticed before! In the second video, you see him looking at the pip-boy, and on the "endurance" stat description it mentions using AP for sprinting! I HATE V.A.T.S! I never use it to shoot. I play shooters dammit, not probability strategy sims. I'll shoot, and the AP can be for sprinting. That's what I wanted all along!
I do like they finally found some color setting in that engine, but at the same time that scenery looks mostly intact over the usual setting of complete horrifying degradation, as in "ghost town" not "nuclear winter hell"... not sure what that is all about.
Combat does look smoother which is very good, however things are looking to fall over into the action type gameplay which does not suit the Fallout setting at all, then again they would sadly sell far more copies if their shit played like CoD.
And obviously the "rainbow color wheel choose dialog that is almost never related what the fucko will say" system, really really not my thing.
All in all this could almost be called Fallout Bioware, but you need to remove near all background RPG elements for that to be legit. And that would absolutely sell on a larger scale then just Fallout, so some exec somewhere is seriously considering this move.
