Obsidian only ruins whatever they touch. Keep those hacks away from my childhood.

JRPGs and their turn based fighting bore the hell out of me. If Chrono Trigger got westernized, I might give it a shot. I don't know about Obsidian doing it though. I hear their track record kinda sucks. BioWare or Bethesda should do it.

No no no no.

Those guys better stay away from Chrono Trigger. I know exactly what they'll do. They'll replace all the unique and interesting characters with Space Marines or some garbage and then make the story about how the government is evil, right before replacing the good battle system with something generic like from WOW or something. It'll lose all of it's charm and become just another bland gritty grind fest.

Say goodbye to anything good about CT if they do make it.

what makes people at obsidian think they can touch a classic as CT and mixing it with WRPGS and it be any good? i must now truly believe the world has gone mad.

A lot of people here seem to forget that CT has a sequel (Chrono Cross), and a third game was announced and cancelled (Chrono Break).
If they work with some of the original creators of the series and take their time with balancing and bug fixing this time (I hope they learned their lesson from KOTOR II, NWN2 and AP), they might make a good game.
There are some talented people there. They can make a good, polished, balanced game if they take their time.

What would a western Chrono Trigger look like? Ugly characters desperately trying to look photorealistic while actually pouncing ever deeper into the uncanny valley? A depressing world with only two colors: brown and grey? More buckets of blood than the Bride from "Kill Bill" makes on a weekly basis?

God, no. Obsidian would ruin Chrono Trigger. I would give my left arm for a new Chrono Trigger game, but not like this.

Only if they did something about the art, I enjoyed Chrono Trigger, but that damn art is just...I hate DBZ and all the art for Chrono Trigger and DQ is like looking at hundreds of Gokus.
The Toriyama art is just for the models. The actual sprites are pretty much par-for-the-course 16-bit sprites, about 1.5 times taller than powered-up SMW Mario. Also, the story is fscking epic. If you pass this up because the guy who did the character concepts introduced us to Shouting Blond Man Style Martial Arts, you're doing yourself a great disservice. Anything involving Chrono Trigger should be pretty awesome. I'm not saying that it is impossible for this to suck (I've heard the horror stories of Chrono Cross), but I'm excited.
actually toiyama did nearly all the concept artwork in the game, sprite characters, backgrounds, buildings inside. they are all very toriyama.

As per the topic at hand, I'd not mind them touching CT....squares definitely not doing anything with it just letting it sit there and rot...and any one that does something with it that makes Square look bad they shut down...I.E:CT resurrection.

As long as they keep the plot and the battle system I have no problem with it.

If they changed either I'd be pissed.

While I didn't particularly like the art style of the original (DBZ can suck it), I'm afraid they're going to westernize it too much. I don't want everyone to have muscles on their muscles.

Truthfully, this is good news, i would play Chrono Trigger again, and it would be nice. Knowing Obsidian, they would also involve choices just like in the original. Its a bold but good move i think, plus Squeenix has lost my respect lately, i wouldn't trust them with a remake/sequel of Chrono Trigger, they would just muck it up like they did with the Final Fantasy series.

First I have to say AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Second is that they can go to hell! Chrono Trigger is the best JRPG released ever! If they westernize it, they'll kill it! Would you let Stephenie Meyer to rewrite True Blood? FUCK NO! That is essentially what westernizing a JRPG would be like and if they want one to kill how about Vagrant Story or some other mediocre JRPG they may have a slight chance of improving.

I don't like western RPGs(outside of Fallout 3) and I don't like Square-Enix's western targeted RPGs! Call me whatever the heck you want but JRPGs should just stick to the traditional style and western developers should NEVER THINK OF TOUCHING A JRPG EVER!!!!!! I wish more traditional JRPGs were made for the current console but I seem to only have 1 developer to rely. Mistwalker hasn't made any new games in a while and I wish The Last Story would get more info released.

I do want a modern remake of the game with HD cel-shaded graphics but made by the original developers with no change to the story or combat.

So there's going to be forced bullet-time sequences where Crono is cutting people up with his sword?

Just calm down, it's not like Retro Studios have never ruined Metroid Prime by making it in 1st person, although a ton of it's polish(which Obsidian lacks) had to do with Nintendo flipping the teatable over and giving it enough development time and proper input on the game(which Obsidian desperately needs).

Also, they could work with the leading members of the staff from the original "Dream team"(Kato, Mitsuda, Horii, and Toriyama) to refine the game to perfection and that it keeps the same spirit and aesthetics of the previous titles while implementing the choices and consequences that western RPGs are known for. The Chrono series does have some elements of C&C despite it's linearity(Isn't the whole purpose of timetravel choice?), like with Magus, Lavos, and the Hydra humor plotline.

First you ruined Neverwinter Nights, now they want to ruin Chrono Trigger. Why, Obsidian, must you ruin the RPGs I love the most?
