Fallout: Project Brazil is a Fan Made New Vegas Prequel

The team has released "part 1" of its ambitious Fallout: New Vegas mod, which aims to create multiple story-driven, highly choice-oriented episodes.

Fallout: Project Brazil is the kind of mod that makes you proud of the PC modding community. It's an incredibly ambitious project, aiming to span a new vault, and an entire new wasteland the size of Fallout 3's, offering multiple story-driven, highly choice-oriented episodes. The game aims to serve as a prequel to Fallout: New Vegas. The team, like many mod teams, is made up of several professionals in various corners of the world working on it in their free time, which is part of the reason behind its lengthy delays. But wait no more, for the first part of Fallout: Project Brazil is now available for download on Nexus Mods [http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45138/?], completely free of charge (so long as you own a copy of Fallout: New Vegas).

The bad news is that the first installment of Project Brazil is not a particularly long one, taking place entirely within "Vault 18" and telling the story of how the game's hero makes it out into the wastelands in the first place. We'll have to wait for the second installment to see the vast, sprawling quest-filled wasteland, but the team promises that the Vault 18 story line will be a nice taste of what's to come.

"Project Brazil tells the story of your player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, on the night of the last big Vault-Ball game of the season. The consequences of your player's decision to dodge or tackle Johnny Matheson shapes the rest of their life, playing as an computer Nerd or a popular Athlete. When the war finally reaches the Vault after one prominent figure turns out to be a member of the Enclave, a civil war erupts overnight, forcing the player to pick a side and escape into the wasteland with their rag-tag party of Robots and Friends."

The mod will be released in three installments over the coming year (hopefully!). It will also feature two new radio stations playing 50s tunes and 60s & 70s garage punk, and an original OST containing 20 tracks of Dark Ambient themes from composer Erich Von Hildberghausen & Christana Udracon.

This news story had me at New Vegas, and sealed the deal with the word mod. I love the content that some of the people at the Nexus make. Better make sure to grab this mod when it comes out for sure. So far on my laptop I have 5GB worth of mods for New Vegas. Mainly they are texture mods, but I've also got the New Vegas Bounty mods, the Beyond Boulder Dome Mods, and some other fun ones too.
Dang it, now I'm excited, but I need to get my mods to work on F3 first. I've been having issues with them for some odd reason and I have the Archive Invalidated Invalidation on as well as the FOSE installed correctly. Oh well, I'll just sit patiently until this mod comes out. *sits in corner and waits*

I've been considering coming back to new vegas after clocking in over 200 hours in skyrim (still prefer new vegas). After getting more comfortable with mods thanks to skyrim I really want to see what I can do with New vegas.

Any really good base gameplay mods you can recomend? I'm not talking about adding in 200+ weapons or alloying you to summon a deathclaw army on command. I just want the game to look as good as it can with some balance changes, bug fixes, AI tweeks, and maybe a better home than the casino suite.

I have a mac and the game on 360, so I'm gonna have to give it a miss. Aw well, the base game is more than enough to sustain me.

Actually I've been considering doing that if the next gen consoles bomb royally. I'm just having trouble bringing myself to fork over the cash needed (I'm a bit of a tight wad). That and my computer doesn't have a disk drive so I'd have to download it online, and I'm really paranoid about giving my debit card information over the internet. You don't know how long it took me to get the confidence to use it on Steam.

If I recall, Gamestop offers Steam gift cards, atleast somewhere in my town does. A friend of mine who doesnt have a debt card just buys those for cash and uses the gift cards to buy things.

You could buy one of those in person, use it on steam get cash buy game and never have to worry about your card being out on someones server?
I think you misunderstanding what I said. I use my debit card for Steam. It took awhile for me to get the confidence to do it though. And I really don't have the confidence to use it on a less reliable web site to buy Windows 7.

Well for starters I highly recommend Nevada Skies as it adds weather like snow in the mountains, rain, and duststorms, but also adds in realistic and beautiful skies. It was the first mod I ever installed.
There is also the New Vegas Restoration which restores all the casinos and the Vegas Strip into what it would look like if it wasn't destroyed, and it comes bundled with the Freeside Restoration as well.
Now one of the most popular mods for New Vegas is Project Nevada and that changes a lot of things that would be too long of a list. Here's the trailer for it though:
I don't have this mod installed, but I want to so I'm gonna install New Vegas onto my gaming desktop and then I'm gonna run this.

I believe the ones who made Project Nevada are the ones working on this mod as well, but I don't know for sure. It's been a while since I've been on the Nexus. If you want other suggestions feel free to PM me. If I don't respond quickly it's because my internet is out and I'm currently using a local hotspot to post this. :p

Just a warning, the New Vegas Restoration sometimes has the possibilities of crashing and it adds an entrance to the Strip in front of McCarran, but make sure you have the pass first. When it comes to mod questlines one of the most popular ones are the New Vegas Bounties one, and they released the second one a couple months back.

Any number of computer stores in your area, provided there are any, should have copies of Windows 7, if you get the bootcamp or whatever it is now software for mac, you could likely bring your Mac into them, they could plug in a USB DVDrom and install it for you?
Hm, I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully I'll be able to pull it off.

As a Brazilian, I sincerely hope they implement a favela, or else it won't be Brazil.
I am replaying GTA IV while I wait for V and can`t stop wondering ... What is Rockstar waiting for to release an GTA Rio de Janeiro? The setting is just way too damn good, and it is not like it would alienate the rest of the world nowadays...

Still, about this one, I am wondering ... Is it Brazil like the country we live in? Or is it Brazil like that great Terry Gilliam film, about the futuristic totalitarian government?
Damn, that was a depressing movie! (worst than 1984, IMO)

I didn't like using my credit card online for the longest time too. I use it more now cause I'm lazy but before I had a credit card I used Visa Gift Cards to buy things online like Steam and PSN. Visa Gift Cards are like small preloaded credit cards. You can buy them in standard amounts or you can go to a bank and ask for a specific amount. So it's basically a credit card with just $50 or a $100 on it so if someone steals it they can only spend what's left on it

Another vote for Project Nevada; it is probably the most popular mod for New Vegas, and for good reason. It is seamlessly integrated, offers some terrific new gameplay features (such as using action points for sprinting or bullet time, in addition to VATS), rebalances combat and hardcore mode... it is just amazing.

Project Brazil, despite the similar name, is completely different. It does come with integrated compatibility for Project Nevada, however.

Also recommended: JSawyer mod, a rebalance mod by the New Vegas project lead, JE Sawyer; Mission Mojave, an outstanding community bugfix mod; Mission Mojave Plus, a compilation of various minor gameplay mods OR (but definitely NOT and) NVEC, a compilation of many, many minor (and some major) gameplay mods; and there are also several outstanding radio station mods that add a terrific amount of period music to the radio stations.

Haven't looked at any of the new FO:NV mods for a couple years since Skyrim came out.
What I still hope someone will one day create is a Far Cry 3-style capture the flag mod. Warzones was close, but buggy as all hell and not very dynamic.

I'm bothered by the mod author's comment on the Nexus page that Fallout has become a third-person action shooter. Why the hell would anyone ever play a Bethesda game in third-person. They are first and foremost first-person experiences. The whole exploration experience doesn't work in third person.
