Fan-Made Animation Pits Superman Against The Hulk

Bruce Banner versus Clark Kent, WHO YA GOT?!

Granted, DC's big blue boyscout and Marvel's second most lovable freakish behemoth -- sorry Bruce, but Ben Grimm just seems like he'd be more fun to have a beer with -- have squared off before [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1563892944/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0785107363&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0ETNJEHPE0E5X3W79R7Q], but this is the first time the two have battled it out in real-time.

Also granted, this being a fan-made CGI film odds are pretty solid that it butts up against a whole slew of intellectual property violations, but since creator "mhabjan" isn't making a dime off of this thing (as far as I can tell, this was created as a class project), he hasn't seen a C&D order from either Marvel or Time Warner.

All that aside, the important thing here is that this video (and its two sequels, which I've embedded below), are surprisingly good. Not just in the big, apocalyptic-clash-type moments either. That sort of thing is a given when you have two fighters who can literally toss mountains around. No, most impressive are the subtle moments. The way Supes lands, the emotion on Hulk's face, stuff like that.

Plus, this is something you will never, ever see in a major Hollywood production thanks to all those aforementioned IP issues, so fans of the two characters should be giddy to see it realized in such a solid form. It may not be perfect, but it's a pretty cool couple minutes while it lasts.

HULK WINS! FATALITY!

Always great to see fans put two people against each other just for the hell of it.

I wonder if the whole thing about being able to earn money though Youtube ads will mean that Marvel and DC will go after him anyways.

Pretty damn solid animation though the punching sound effect kinda ruined it for me.

I already saw it a few days ago when a friend showed it to me, and my opinion is the same as it was then. This guy does not understand physics, not even cartoon/comic book physics. I really want to like it because of the idea, and he put a lot of work into it, but the movement just constantly looks wrong to me. My attention keeps getting drawn to that instead of what's going on with the action. He is no Monty Oum (of Haloid/Dead Fantasy fame).

Great effort for basically just one guy. Maybe I can talk him into joining me for a couple pilot episodes I need done.

That was pretty impressive althought Hulk isn't bulky as I like him to be but that's jsut my personal taste.

Okay, let me just say that this is better than I ever could have done. Props for the effort, the scope, etc.

But while the Hulk model impressed me, the Supes model was kinda lame in comparison. And at points, Hulk seemed super-plastic-ish to me.

Additionally, this is not the way I picture either of them fighting. Too much pro wrestling/faux jujutsu.

HULK USE ARMLOCK! HULK TAKE PUNY MAN CENTER OF GRAVITY! HULK EXPLOIT JOINTS!

See? Doesn't make much sense.

I couldn't watch past the second video. The faces and movements of the models were just too deep in the uncanny valley for me.

I liked their fighting styles. I thought they got Superman just right. Against the Hulk, he probably would use tactics a little more than haymakers. Meanwhile, Hulk was at his best raging, headbutting and smearing with his fists. I will concede though, that Hulk applying anything like a joint lock is stupid. Likewise, not sure about the Irish Whip from Supes. Hulk surely fights something like a gorilla. That said, Go Hulk! Smash Little Man!

Thing is, he doesn't even have to make any money off it to run afoul of various IP laws. Whether the infringer made money off their infringement is not a primary consideration in copyright infringement case, and that the infringer didn't make any money off it will not prevent a judgment against them. Making money off it though is definitely going to weight the case heavily against the defendant if it goes to court, so he should probably make sure he doesn't accept any ad sharing from Youtube.

Main thing he needs to do though is make sure he can present a solid case that it falls under any or all of the Fair Use exemptions. Hmm, now how would he do this... could probably make a case he made it in the course of improving his skills as an animator (read: educational purposes). Making a case that it has zero negative effect on the originals is also an option I suppose. Maybe add some sort of commentary to get in on that commentary/criticism clause too...

I thought it was pretty good, a lot better than the official Hulk vs Superman they did. Yeah it was a comic, but still.

Saw a cool Batman fanflick years ago, started with him fighting the Joker when all of a sudden the Aliens (yeah from the movie) show up.
