Fan-Made He-Man Game Based on the '80s Cartoon Makes Its Way Online

The He-Man '80s cartoon gets remade into a side-scrolling beat-'em-up game by fans and there's even a demo.

If you were born during the 1980s, chances are you're familiar with The Masters of the Universe -- or more commonly known as He-Man -- animated series. If you are, you'll be very pleased to know that a group of fans got together and created a side-scrolling beat-'em-up based on the property. It's in the same vein as Konami's brawlers like The Simpsons Arcade Game, X-Men and the like, which is the perfect genre to tug at those nostalgic heartstrings. If you aren't content just watching gameplay footage, you can even try the demo out which is linked with instructions here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w11OsruvZw] .

The demo clocks in at 37MB and includes nine stages and one boss, which might or might not be Skeletor. While it might not have the best animations for a brawler compared to today's games, it's still an impressive feat considering it wasn't by backed by any major publisher or studio.

Browsing the ChronoCrash forums [http://www.chronocrash.com/forum/index.php?topic=1110.195] where the people talk about the game's development, a She-Ra game might be in the cards -- or at the very least, added to the He-Man game's character roster. Since its conception and launch by toy-maker Mattel back in 1982, the He-Man property has seen countless animated reboots and even spawned a live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables).

Anyone excited to try this out? Do let us know how it plays, alright?

Its with stuff like this that shows that not everyone needs to use Kickstarter to do their 2D platformer game based on someone elses IP.

I always preferred She-Ra.

When Prince Adam turns into He-Man, he just takes his clothes off and runs round in his undies...rubbish disguise.

When Adora turns into She-Ra, she gets a cool costume and a crown and things, but also grows like 2 feet of hair.

Coming up next, the makers of the side scrolling He-Man game will be issued a Ceaase and Desist by Dreamworks, despite them not doing anything with the IP.

OT - It's not a bad effort on the creators part, too bad I'm not a fan of side scrolling beat-em-ups.

Release it ASAP, before Mattel sends out a C&D and forces them to erease it to protect the Progress of Useful Arts.

I'll have to try this out some time. I hope you get to ride around on Battle Cat while tearing away at Skeletor's hoards.

Yes, release this soon. Creaters of great fan-games always make the mistake of given out details of what there working way before they are finished. Then, with their bad luck, the companies that own the IP but have not used it properly, if at all, in years instead of letting it promote their IP or buy the fan made ideas, decide that sending a big "WE WILL DESTROY YOU IF YOU CONTINUE THIS NOT-FOR-PROFIT CELEBRATING OF OUR PROPERTY" message is the best way to show what their fans' enthusiasm means to them: "if it ain't directly making us money, crush it."

http://imgur.com/AAhojh1 Yup. Whoopin' as Orko. Can't beat that. If you're into stuff like Streets of Rage, (looks like the dev team is actually called "Beats of Rage", love it), this will scratch a fine itch for you. It's hit detection can be a bit wonky but it's pretty good in general. I wish they had throw moves or something, but there are in fact a few other moves besides mashing attack. It's pretty dang fun. Again, whoopin' as Orko. That's just fine with me. Try it out Escapist people and everyone else! Nostalgia out the wing-wang.

It's too bad that brawlers are dead in this current generation. After Urban Reign, which got panned (even though it's the best game in the brawler genre) things went downhill.
I like that the graphics look like the cartoon, and the music is straight from the cartoon, but the animation sells the game - the fighting animation is what makes everything work. At least the walking animation is cool .
