I just signed the petition, 22237 people are on it so far.
Give me my fucking LAN, I read that Hamachi thing that Credge posted, and I just wonder, how the hell is that piracy?
The point is that with a local network one person can buy the game and then let everyone else on the network copy it. Bypassing local cd-key detection would be much easier than bypassing bnet's. Still, perhaps it's possible to start something very similar to a LAN game once you're on bnet. Remember, from day one they've been making SC2 for the competitive crowd, and if they made it impossible to reduce latency by playing local matches I think there would be quite the uproar from South Korea
Wrong. Blizzard's, and mainly StarCraft's main market
is South Korea. They wouldn't dare to anger that crowd, because for the first sign of lag, they won't come with pitchforks and torches, no, they will come with internet terror and fucking NUKES. Blizzard will plant their best and fastest server all across South Korea.
But what about us, living on the verge of civilization, in
Europe? Sure, the lag won't be a problem is the US and Korea, but we europeans usually get the most shitty service there is. I tried to play StarCraft on Bnet, but after the fourth game full off "Waiting for Player..." and dropping, I gave up and went back to play on LAN with my friends, or over Hamachi.
We were a huge bunch of pirates back in secondary school, we never considered buying a game, but StarCraft and Diablo 2 was different. Those were only legit copies of games we bought for a loooong time. We pooled together and bought us each a copy, because we thought they deserve our support for the awesome LAN parties. Now, I'm not even considering pirating SC2... we will, however play SC1 on the upcoming LAN party
