Far Cry 3 - More Skills Unlocked?

So I've just been seriously getting into Far Cry 3's SP, and I'm wondering - exactly how many "Missions" must you complete to unlock the higher level skills? I'm currently sitting on like 9 unused skill points because the skills currently available to me mean absolutely nothing to me and I have zero interest in them.

PS: Also, anyone else miss when the CAPTCHAs were actually useful and used for things like translating books, rather than ads?

I believe there are two times when more skills get unlocked. Can't remember exactly but I think it's around when you get to badtown and then when you get to hoyt's island.

It's something that annoyed me about the SP, by the time you get some of the really cool high level skills like gunslinger execution and heavy beatdown you have already finished more than half the game.

Thats really....kind of silly.

Especially since the only skills I really want/need are the higher tier skills. Something like "Better Hipfire Accuracy" is completely useless to me.

Yeah, it could've done with a newgame plus or something.

Trying to do a stealthy bow+melee dude, it was particularly irksome that you can't get Heavy takedown until half a dozen odd missions past Heavies being introduced.

Apart from a handfull, the skills in Far Cry 3 are pretty useless. The ability to stealth kill a dude by jumping on him or from the water is warranted maybe 5 or 6 times in the entire game. Then there's the ability to fire a gun while ziplining, which would be handy if there were ziplines over enemy encampments or something.

And the process by which they unlock is really stodgy, too.

I know what you mean. I was in the exact same place as you. I just spent them because I knew by the time I got to unlock the rest I'd have more points, so I thought I may as well use them up.

It's a really stupid system. They should have linked the abilities to something more controllable. Like "take x outposts" or "skin X animals". Even if they don't make sense from a realism perspective, it's better than the game giving you to them only when you complete certain missions.

Yeah the intervals between skill unlocks is absurd.
Specially for someone who is not taking any skills they can whenever they can as you'll have literally 15-17 points when the next "tier" unlocks.

I thought that too - especially since the word "missions" appears in blue on the skills screen, so I thought it corresponded with the sidequests, since they're marked in blue.

It's pretty much broken down in to three acts with each tier of skills being unlocked at each new act of the main story. At first, I was startled at how many points I was accumulating but then quickly realized that it was understandable as I was spending most of my time faffing about hunting, taking outposts and exploring.

Yeah, that's one of my major problems with the game. If you had all of them available at the start in a newgame+ or something that'd be awesome, but yeah the current system sucks.

I'm currently doing a ironman playthrough without completing any of the missions and I've been restricted to 15ish skills. half of them I don't want because they buff my survivability beyond belief and all the ones I want (bows, marksman, takedowns) are all perma locked. It's a pain in the ass.
