I know most discussions on this are to do with graphics comparison but not gameplay. Which is better in terms of overall game play?

My vote is for Crysis because even though its not nearly as ambitious as Farcry 2, what it does just seems to work alot better.

Far Cry 1 had better gameplay than Crysis IMO, Crysis at a close second, FC2 at dead last. All stealth options were lost with FC2, as the system itself was broken beyond all repair.

Far Cry 1 (And to a lesser extent, 2) gave you the feeling of fighting for your life, and while Crysis gave you the same feeling towards the second half of the game, you clearly still had a technological advantage.

I agree, Farcry 2 had so much potential but was fucked over by some terrible gameplay decisions. Everyone hates you, the malaria served no purpose except to annoy you.

Crysis just worked and was alot more fun

I can understand why FC2 came out lackluster though. The team working behind it was incredibly rushed. So much more could have been accomplished had they acquired more time.

Farcry 2 got a bad rap, only for it's long driving, its really fun when you get into it
actually, It was just a little to hard for most people.

I have it and didn't find it hard at all, just annoying. The driving times were too long and frustrating, constantly being broken up by enemy patrols and bases that weren't marked on the map.

It's not that Farcry 2 was hard, it's that the combat was incredibly frustrating and every 10 feet there's an outpost of enemies that seems to respawn the exact moment your camera moves from their dead bodies. It's a whole lot of frustrating gameplay elements that could have, and should have, been fixed before release. Difficulty has nothing to do with playability, as Jeremy Parish from 1up so artfully put it in his review for Prinny.

Edit:
Haven't gotten the chance to play Crysis so can't help there.

Pretty much this, I haven't really played Crysis, but Far Cry 2 gets way too much hate. And the way to make it easier was to buy the stealth suit, but did anyone do it? Noooo. I loved Far Cry 2, but I can see why people hate it, and most of the time it seems they just played the first three minutes then called it quits.
