What is your favorite Film Noir movie? My personal favorite is the Big Sleep. It's kind of weird though, because everyone LOVES drinking in the movie. The main character carries around a whiskey bottle in his pocket!

I think probably Nadja and Blade Runner are the best modern ones I've seen. Can't say I really get into the originals, I think the early noir films have dated badly.

Does Renaissance count? The French black and white animated movie?

Maltese Falcon, does not get better than Humphrey Bogart.
Amen to that.

I think some would call it "neo-noir", but sure. It borrows heavily from that style.

For another modern noir, I like "Brick".

My favorite RECENT film noir movie would have to be Oldboy, with Watchmen coming in at a close second.

Oh yeah? Well you're...you're scary too!

EDIT: In my defense, the "noir" genre is kind of hard to define.

Chinatown. Ol' Jack Nicholson is a god among men.

But that being said (and for some reason I hate saying it as it's so modern) my ultimate favourite is Brick. Watch it right now if you haven't before.

Ninja'd. But seriously, the idea of a noir set in a modern high school is strange, but they pulled it off wonderfully.

"Out of the Past". Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas in love with the same woman. Best film noir dialogue ever written.

Brick, I suppose. The few classics I've seen didn't stand out as much as that film.
