So, we're heading deep into the month of September. For people in a proper Hemisphere *coughshotsfiredcough*, that means the end of the summer season. Whether you hit the beach, cooked out, or did a lot of sight seeing, chances are you bought something to go along with your summertime fun. And lo, did one of those objects make you happier than the rest. Why not gush about it?

My friends, let me tell you about the Jackery Explorer 500

Although I just got this in August, it made my outdoors time so much better.

I defied nature with this. On hot, muggy days, I went to the beach and didn't feel a thing. I had my Jackery which powered my fan, my electric cooler, my Nintendo Switch (I WILL RELAX THE WAY I WANT TO RELAX IN NATURE) and my phone... and with my solar panel, I left with a 100 percent charge. With 4 hours of continuous use.

With. Cloud. Cover.

Not much cloud cover. Partly Cloudy. Whatever. It was still amazing.

The bonus for me is that the winter storms here in Western NY have been getting much more rough of late. It'll keep me running with lights probably overnight if I handle it right. It's opened up a new way of thinking. I'm even considering camping.

I don't know why. I think it's to flex with my gadgets. Yes, I'm that type of guy.

So, new bike, great outfit, new house? What have you gotten over the last season that made you the happiest?

I'm sorry, isn't your backyard Nature's Version of WW3? You're in the home of the most Potently deadly animals in the world. I'm good with my flash with no pain, thank you.

Sweet Fan that changes the chromatic light in your surrounding area, though.

Purchased some QT halos. Not TSO certified but if I get a fed onboard I?ll just use my David Clark?s. QTs are light better noise reduction and cooler for those hot Southwestern US days. Worth every penny. Plus I?m too cheap for Bose A20s

A lot of fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers, most notably watermelons. Some of the finest I've ever had. I love watermelon.

That only enhances our survival. Hell the Nuclear holocaust might even make it down here and we probably won't even notice the difference.

I acquired a new job. Pays double what my old job did, with better benefits an a lot of nice little side perks.

I had to move for the job and acquired a new apartment. It costs almost twice as much as my old one and is the same size because the new area I live in is ridiculously overpriced, so all the extra money I would be making just gets wasted on housing.

Yay I guess?

I also bought a Casper mattress. Seems pretty good so far.

Horrible radioactive, mutated animals come crawling out of the wilderness and all of you will just shrug because they're still not as weird as a platypus.

I've never known for sure that Mad Max is a documentary, but I always suspected.

Basically the only change if society breaks down is we don't have to follow those pesky speed limit signs anymore, so all things considered it's a bit of a net gain imo.

A room fan, for when it got really hot.

We bought a plunge pool last year, but we never had the sort of sustained heat to make it worth getting out this summer.

Lots of cement. Can't get enough of the stuff (well, I did, actually a bit too much).

Fun fact about me, I can not taste most melons. I have no idea why people like watermelon. Every time I had a piece (I literally haven't had one since the 2010's began), it just felt like a sticky waste of effort. And times that by two with cantaloupe, a word I legitimately haven't said since the beginning of this year when I inquired "Why is fruit salad always ruined with the addition of cantaloupe?".

Hey, if you're ever thinking about upgrading the fan, I can recommend the ridiculously priced Dewalt 20V MAX Cordless Fan. You can plug it in the wall, or you can do as the title says and run it off of a Dewalt battery. I had a bunch because I'm a Dewalt tool guy. But the thing puts out air. I got one of the bigger batteries, a 5.0 ah one. On medium high, the thing ran through the night. 8 hours easily.

Rolling blackouts just missed me by two blocks, but it's good to have it around just in case.

We live in North Texas, and like many people who need respite from the hellish summer heat, we spend a lot of time by our pool. We also entertain with it quite a bit, grilling, drinks, but for music, our only option was to use our Bose stereo which is stationary under the awning at the other side of the backyard, so we had to blare it, which is fine for an afternoon with friends, but not very appropriate for our one-on-one late night/early morning skinny dips.

So I got us an Ion Explorer Outback 2 [https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ion+explorer+outback+2&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2efrBRD3ARIsAEnt0ejY7xpCHqhsRSZ4Fa42JUfvVlGq5NMRDQ-ndvf0mR4jF7HoQ3_GTG8aAilLEALw_wcB&hvadid=267975679846&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9026803&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=4935022544299725640&hvtargid=kwd-438670690921&hydadcr=15102_9480626&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_5jjp6rzsec_e], an AM/FM/Bluetooth/USB speaker that sounds great, is portable so we can wheel it poolside and listen at appropriate volumes, is water resistant so we don?t have to worry about the inevitable splash from the pool, has a mic for karaoke (not that we?d ever allow that nonsense on our property, but the option?s there,) it can charge your phone, has two deep cup holders on top for our cocktails and it has a bottle opener in the handle. It?s perfect.

I talked a local crematorium into letting me take some leaves from their Thanksgiving cactus so that I could try to grow my own. They looked at me like I was a little weird but they are both growing so jokes on them. I'm so proud of my amateur gardening skills.

Other than that...I bought a new toilet brush. I have not really splurged this summer.
