Does manga count?

If so: Yotsuba& and Vagabond.

Yotsuba& is just so happy and enjoyable in every way and Vagabond is pretty awesome.

Berserk

Not simply the best comic, but flat out the best story I have ever read. And I have read Watchmen and Lord of the Rings.

It sorta, kinda sucks now (it's still running), but when it was good it was a masterpiece.

The Boys.

That's my favourite ongoing one at least.
started that not too long ago...gotta say I'm loving it so far (I actually have a question, are The Boys periminantly full of compund V?....I mean is the Idea behined superheros not the "ability" but more the costumes/charachter/corporate backing?)

for me it would be between Transmetropolitan and Preacher...I love Preacher because of its story/charachters and how it croses the line 10 times at every opertunity, I also love transmetropolitan because of its crazy sci fi world

I havnt read that many comics...I tried Planetary but was put off on how it just jumped all over the place and I didnt have a clue what was going on (to be fair I'm only like halfway in the first trade-paperback)

OT: Harley Quinn Preludes and Knock Knock jokes.
I absolutely love the person for buying me it. It's the favourite of my comics.
I also have The Killing Joke, which isn't in that pic but it probably my second favourite :D

Maus, because it is...well...it's Maus isn't it? The most important comic book ever written.

On a similar note Persepolis is really good too.

When you get into super hero comic books it is pretty much all old and DC.

The original eighties to early nineties run of Suicide Squad (The current Squad is trash). Great characters fleshed out nicely then killed off brutally. Read these and you will love ridiculous characters like Captain Boomerang. Good luck finding it though as I don't think there has been a TPB collection of this stuff.

Grant Morrison's run on Doom Patrol, there is nothing to compare this to, it's sort of Dada/Surrealist Super Hero Comics. Available in TPB.

Garth Ennis and John McCrea's short run Hitman series is one of the few highlights of the dire nineties. It is the best of the worst of that period. Collected in TPB.

The Dark Knight Returns is pretty spectacular, forget the "hype" about the reinvention of the superhero (although that could be an easy angle for writing an essay on it) just stop and LOOK at the pages. Comic books are made of words and PICTURES, and this damn book is stunning.

...and the token Marvel story would be the best ever Marvel story. Goofy old Kraven the Hunter suddenly becomes the most awesome thing in the Marvel Universe in Kraven's Last Hunt.

Other great art would be any Dr Strange book by Steven Ditko. I love that crazy extra dimensional stuff. Ditko just goes wild...

EDIT: Shit. I forgot to mention Mignola...just go and buy some Hellboy...

Kingdom Come is pretty much the best superhero comic I've read. The art is absolutely spectacular, Alex Ross at his best, and the story of a near-future DCU on the brink of superhuman war is likewise excellent. It's a Superman story in all but name, and a damned good one.

Hellblazer is definitely worth a look if you want something a bit darker. It's Vertigo's longest running book, and John Constantine is one of the more interesting comic book antiheroes. Probably best to start with the beginning here, but Pandemonium, the 25th anniversary book, is my favourite.

And I haven't started it yet because I'm in the middle of exams, but I'll be reading Infinite Kung Fu soon, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that ends up on my favourites list. I can tell you now that the art is gorgeous, and does a great job of capturing the fluidity of martial arts.

Man, I can't believe nobody has mentioned Bone yet. That, Marvel 1602, Watchmen, and Batman: The Long Halloween are some of my favorites. Although I guess technically those are all self contained graphic novels, not long running comic series.

Edit: Also, the original Eastman and Laird run of TMNT was awesome, at least until they made the TV show. After that point, the comics quickly got very silly, presumably because they didn't want to piss off the parents of the kids who found their comicbooks expecting pizza eating teenagers instead of ninjas with no qualms about killing. The first year or so worth of comics is great, though.

Sandman, Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim. In all honesty I don't read too many comics/graphic novels, but I generally enjoy them when I do.

Can't say Transmetropolitan really did it for me. No idea why, but it left me cold. I respect that the issue most likely lies with me and not the books though, as they're quite acclaimed.

Yeah V is the only source of superpowers in The Boys (except Iron Man style armour).

I love the series for how deranged it gets as well as how none of the characters fit the usual comic book hero archtypes. Also I just love the whole anti-superhero comic genre.

Well, if we are talking about a superhero comic books, then I'd say Deadpool.
If non-superhero, then probably The Preacher.
If manga, then One Piece.

The only comics I own are the hardback compilations of Marvel Zombies and Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness crossover.

I picked them both up for cheap when I was in Japan, and they are in English even.

Oh wait, I suppose I have volumes 1-4 of Fullmetal Alchemist, if we are counting manga, also purchased in Japan.

Still, I'd say I enjoy reading Marvel Zombies more.
