A month or so ago my computer crashed and I had to start my Minecraft world all over. Since then I have resumed work on my super fortress, but haven't explored very far. With the new 1.8 update I'm glad that I haven't. Each world can only have 3 strongholds which are a set distance (~600-~1100 blocks) from the origin, and If I had been exploring pre-update those blocks would have rendered and I would never be able to experience the Strongholds. Now I am afraid to explore in fear of an update coming in 1.9 or the final game that I would miss out on, or at the very least render inapplicable for anywhere close to my starting point.

Legitimate concern, or do you think the major terrain updates are done?

What happens after the super fortress is finished? Do you move your family into it? Do you hand it down to your grandchildren?

I can't think of any other way to say this, so I'm just gonna say it. Worrying that you shouldn't play a game you enjoy because your virtual accomplishments might become transitory is ridiculous. Build your fortress. If a new update that comes out that renders it obsolete, build a new fortress. The game is supposed to be fun, right? Building fortresses is fun? Isn't that the entire point of Minecraft? To build things and explore?
