Aren't virtually all bacteria resistant to the first antibiotic, streptomyocin? The resistant bacteria doesn't suprise me.
Also with regards to fecal bacteria, you find those just about anywhere moist and warm. Inside of a soda machine seems to cover that.
And aren't most strains of E. coli harmless anyway?

actually, there was NO difference between the bathroom brushes and the unused control brushes.

When I used to work at a Boston Market every night the spouts and other easily removable parts of the soda fountain machine that took part in dispensing the drinks were submerged in anti-bacterial solution. At first I thought it may be the ice but now that I've read the full story I know it was either someone contaminating the soda fountains with dirty hands or the soda fountains' spouts were sterilized.

I also heard and correct me if I'm wrong please, that Chinese people drink only hot drinks because it's more healthy and free of bacteria than having cold drinks. I'm just gonna avoid drinking from the soda fountains from now on.
