Hack: "you can take these downloaded movies but you if you do... I'll fire this woman"

Person: "what because your profits are falling every year?"

Hack: "oh no, they are in fact rising year on year! No I'll just use piracy as an excuse to the unions so I can cut loose some dead weight and export more movie work to CGI farms in Taiwan"

Person: "so... you're basically holding your union employees hostage"

Hack: "Hey, at least I'm not a pirate"

If a 1 pirated movie costs one job in the industry, then the industry would have been destroyed years ago.

I'm not fond of pirates, but the ICE seizures were probably illegal (I mean, if the law actually applied to these organizations).

On the other hand, they're fucking with people, which is always funny.

[sub]That isn't to say the government isn't doing sneaky things that aren't also good. The FBI crackdown on the Coreflood botnet was impressive and quite necessary.[/sub]

Am I the only one that finds this wildly ironic. "We are going to pirate your site to stop piracy ARHG" Course we aren't really stopping piracy we're just talking about it.

If you want some real food for thought, consider the IT Crowd's perspective on piracy. Perhaps this'll be able to shine some new light on the subject.

I find this to be quite funny.
I loathe piracy, and anything that in any way irritates pirates warms my heart.
Nothing irritates a pirate. They don't have to deal with DRM, or server downtime, or unskippable announcements before their movies start, or any of that. You and me, the legitimate customers, are the ones who have to deal with that shit. So how is it helping?
Because this is not targeting us, the fair consumer.
Rather than some DRM which demonizes the user, this is pointing fingers at those who do pirate.

It may not be helping, but I find it funny. And I value assured amusment over justice.

From the looks of the PSA pirating won't last very long, I mean, that guy loses a DVD and a Case every time someone takes a free movie. That is not economically viable :{

Because they want to make sure we're not pirates.
...

Ok, I really don't know. I've given up trying to find the logic these companies are using.

Ah I love me a good PSA put out by Uncle Sam. Always terribly done with no thought put into it other than "how shocking can we make this without it being porn?".

My whole take on the piracy thing is that if the entertainment industries want to stop it they need to simply adapt to it. Wanna put TBP out of business? Offer a site that does what they do but 10 times better and with no dead torrents. Charge a small yearly fee for membership and BAM, problem solved. Only the die-hard pirates will continue to download illegally; I would think most people will be glad to pay for a superior service.

That... is actually kind of creative.

However, I'll just say that that boom mike operator is a total *****. I think she still has some of my CDs.

That is amazing. Government taking pirate sites and converting them with antipiracy ads.

It's like, at least one guy in the US gov has a sense of humour.

It doesn't matter if it's targeting us or not. We're the only ones who are going to see it or give half a shit about it. So yeah...
Still, you must admit that there is a bit of humor in the way this was done.

I think if they made pornographic PSAs, more people would watch them.

I thought it was kinda funny, and at least alot more creative than what they usually put out. Also repurposing pirate sites for antipiracy soapboxing? Delicious irony.

Wow, a piracy ad that is actually directed at pirates?

Who the hell thought this up!?

It's like they're trying to copy the Truth campaign, but Truth is genuinely clever (if a bit obnoxious), only attacks corporations, and doesn't tell people that they don't have souls.

So actually, they have nothing in common.
