I already like the game on PS1, so asking for advice.

1) I know the original PC port is buggy, does the Steam version fix this?
2) The music in the original port was awful MIDI tunes, does the Steam version fix this?
3) Are there other issues I should know about?

The Magic Loader is really tempting even though it doesn't have a lot of the good stuff I actually grind for early on, so I'm seriously considering the Steam port as an excuse to play this excellent game.

Oh dear... No, you don't want my take on this. I have pretty much the opposite opinion of the whole game. Can someone who is not me give him a hand?

Does any of this matter?

Surely the game itself is only secondary to the primary reason of purchasing FF8 - The Card Game!

If it's anything like their port of 7, compatibility is not an issue anymore, but other than that the game is the same old thing. With better resolution options ofc. But nah, still midi tunes. Can't believe i still have the big-box version on my shelf, haha :p

1) I never came across any bugs.
2) No clue. Hadn't played the game in probably 12 years, but afaik the music sounded the same. Sources said something about an updated version though. Did some research before I bought it.
3) None that I can think of. Worked well with my PS2-controller adapter.

And yes, magic booster was awesome. You don't get overpowered and it took a way quite a bit of the annoying grind in the beginning of the game. One thing worth mentioning is that you might wanna check Amazon for a key before buying it on Steam. I got it for like 1/3 of Steams price from there, but I'm from Sweden and we tend to get fucked by their prices.

Why not ask the Steam community? Well I guess this is just about the same anyway.
I'm curious if they fixed the awful Chocobo Race bug on their own or if they just implemented the fan patch.

I played FFVIII 15 years ago on my PS1. Or at least, I played the first disc of it before quitting the game in disgust. I never have gotten around to playing the second disc.

Aside from compatibility I dont expect anything else will be changed they just wouldnt waste the money. I could be wrong but im pretty sure if they didnt update VII which is their most successful FF game ever for Steam they wont bother with VIII.

If they updated it in any way I expect they would have re-branded it such as calling it FFVIII+ or something and actually pushed it so they could get try and get more sales.

Well, there could be mods out there now to bring the visuals forward a bit. Like the hi res patch in FF7.

I wasn't aware it had pad support now! That's awesome!
It always had pad support.

1. Oh yeah? What bugs?

2. It was MIDI and still is. I don't think it's awful though.

3. It just works and you can use the save editor HYNE with it.

The second disc is when I usually get bored. Thought the first disc was fantastic. The whole desert prison thing bores me.

They did update VII. New backgrounds and new character models I think.
